Editorial Reviews

New Orleans rapper and Hip-Hop connoisseur Curren$y thrives on making music on his own terms. With his "Jet Life" mantra about living life to the fullest, the savvy rhyme spitter (why do you think they call him "Spitta"?) is focused on a lyrical devotion to the truth and authenticity. It's because of this ethos that the man born Shante Anthony Franklin has transcended any regional rap stereotypes to become a favorite of bloggers, critics, fans and everyone in between. Now aligned with Warner Bros., the plan is to let Spitta be himself, but have even more people get acquainted with the Jet (Just Enjoy This Sh*t) Life.

Weekend at Burnie's is definitely a classic album that has its own identity as all Curren$y albums do. From the beginning to the end... Str8 classics... Not 1 song on here that I dislike... I'm definitely getting the MP3 version as well as a hard copy...

#Jetlife til the next life!! #JETS

I love this cd, smooth blends of uptempo beats and layed back tunes. Curren$y definly deserves to be heard! I played it start to finish without skipping a track good all the way through. My personal favorite is "You See It" and "On G's" A must have cd!

Curren$y is mostly known in the mixtape circuit as a rapper who rhymes about weed and staying fly over some great beats. His two previous albums Pilot Talk and Pilot Talk II are nothing short of excellent and are highly recommended. Linking a deal with WEA (Warner Brothers) he stays on the lyrical topics of the weed and other basic materials. While it may be cliche to a lot of people (especially those who don't smoke), Curren$y manages to make it seem interestiing with his personality over a lot of mellow production.

Curren$y has that smooth voice that really works well with this album starting with "#jetsgo". He cleverly puts together his lyrics to make them flow simply throughout the song with no problem. Jet Life members Young Roddy and Trademark appear for "Still" which has all three rhyming over a dark beat. "She Don't Want A Man" is a track that is aimed for commercial appeal which works pretty nice as Curren$y slightly steps out his element topic wise. "One Life" and "You See It" are both decent tracks but not too rememberable. "Televised" is a very slow beat that features Fiend (of No Limit fame) and is pretty long stretching over 5 minutes. "This Is The Life" has a nice beat and a hook, another track that could be aimed for commercial play. "On G's" features Young Roddy and Trademark again and has a very nice hook over another mellow beat. The overall product is pretty decent from that point until the end of the album.

Weekend At Burnies is a pretty excellent album. Fans of hip hop with a mellow vibe will find some enjoyment of this. That being said I also recommend you track down "Covert Coupe" a mixtape that Curren$y made and released around the same time as this. Peace.

I would give this album a four out of five stars. Curren$y is still making my doctor rich because my neck is killing me from all the head bobbing I do from listening to it.

Curren$y is my guy! Weekend at Burnies, clever name I might add, is the business! This late installment of his other underground albums is in my top 3 favorite albums, excluding his mixtapes he puts out, of his. If your familiar with his "Jet Life" movement and lifestyle, then this album I highly recommend buying. Worth every dollar if you don't like commercial music that's you hear on the radio.

She Don't Wanna Man, Televised, #JETSGO, and On G's are my top songs, but all the tracks don't disappoint in my opinion.

I only gave this album 4 stars because its not his best work. If you looking for his best album because you just starting to get into him, I suggest everyone pick up PILOT TALK 1. That to me is the best album he's put out though you will come to realize this dude puts out a new mixtape or album every 2 to 3 months, straight BEASTTTTT when it comes to putting out work. This isnt even the most current release, and this just came out but he just release Verde Terrace a few days ago.

There is a lot of mixtapes he put out for free, even the free album with Alchemist called Covert Coup is available...that joint is crazyyy. All and all though this album is good too just not my favorite spitta work.

I dont even have any of the songs on this album in my rotation yet. Im still discovering old spitta joints which makes being a fan of his very exciting.

Curren$y has been around for over a decade, but his career initially got off to a rocky start. He originally started out signed to Master P's No Limit Records as a member of the 504 Boyz. While he was there, his only contributions to the label were a series of guest appearances on other projects. A couple of years later, he signed with Cash Money Records hoping to improve his fortunes, but due to his album getting pushed back numerous times he left Cash Money shortly afterward. Curren$y then went to release a series of mixtapes. He signed with an indie label to release two critically acclaimed albums- the debut "This Ain't No Mixtape" and its follow-up "Jet Files". He then caught the ear of an unlikely ally- former Roc-A-Fella Records CEO Damon Dash, who signed him to his new label- the Def Jam distributed DD172. From there, Curren$y released his most notable projects to date- "Pilot Talk" and its sequel "Pilot Talk II" several months later. Although he has stated his disinterest in major labels in the past, Curren$y surprised everyone when he signed a deal with Warner Bros. Records.

His first album for his new label was the free album "Covert Coup", which was produced by The Alchemist. He then followed it up with "Weekend At Burnie's"- a project that reunited him with the production team Monsta Beatz ("Roasted" on "Pilot Talk", "Famous" and "Fashionably Late" on "Pilot Talk II"). All of the songs were handled by Monsta Beatz minus the first single and opening track "#jetsgo" which was produced by newcomer Rahki. He teams up with longtime associates Trademark Da Skydiver and Young Roddy on the songs "Still", "On G's" and "Get Paid".
