This is my favorite of Umrigar's excellent books. The story continues to haunt me. Passion taken too far with the worst possible result.

This was quite an interesting perspective on India. It had twists and turns that kept my interest! Well worth reading!

I absolutely love this author and this novel didn't disappoint. Many sad moments and a big twist, I think you will love this book if you enjoy Indian fiction with a western twist.

I never write a bad review but with this book I must make an exception. Perhaps if I can save one reader the wasted time spent, I won't feel so bad about writing this. If you do choose to read this novel and find one redeeming thing in it, please tell me...maybe I'm missing something other than my wasted time!

Utterly depressing.... Waiting for it to turn into a great read which never occurred.just didn't develop like it could have, and ended abruptly with a terrible finish.really forced myself to finish so I could move on to a new book

It is very interesting and provoked a very interesting conversation with my book club. The sadness over the loss of there son is heartbreaking.

Have already reviewed this one!!!

When Frank and Ellie Benton's son dies, their only escape is a job offer in India, where their two worlds collide. Frank's obsession with the little boy Ramesh, the son of their housekeepers, throws the couple's life into chaos. This is one of the darkest books by Mrs. Umrigar and well worth reading.
