I’m a retired school teacher and being honest, I don’t want to sweat to oldies, nor do I want to do an “extreme workout” – I just want a logical, common sense way to lose weight.
The author writes like he is talking to a friend and I didn’t feel overwhelmed or stressed by his suggestions. Instead I felt that this was a plan for me – an average, retired person.
This book is definitely a valuable reference and I’m glad that I bought it.
I liked this book a lot as the author made me feel I wasn’t alone as far as late night eating temptations and other weight adding bad habits.
After reading this book I was able to immediately put some of his suggestions to use which made me feel I had accomplished something immediately.
This is an easy to read and easy to get started program.
This book contains 12 chapters, possibly why the author chose the title, about well-known principles and an additional brief chapter on the importance of having a maintenance plan to keep the weight off, or maintain fitness gains. The chapters include some well-known concepts, such as the importance of breakfast, building lean muscle, and the often diet-derailing issue of late night eating and snacking.
While currently on the prowl for a guide book on weight loss, I came across this title. It is a short read, leaving many areas open for additional development. Coach Swann provides some very basic information; thus, I do not recommend this for someone who is has taken on the weight loss challenge before.
Sadly, there are no references to scientific, or even fitness, journals and articles or links to the applications he mentions. On another note, he doesn’t even refer you to his own website.
So, why 3 stars?
I commend the author for diligently publishing his work. The information is relevant and just may be able to jump start someone’s weight loss and fitness journey.

For me, weight loss is a constant factor, I am always looking for tips to keep my weight under control. By planning, as suggested by Coach JV Swann, I truly believe that I can be successful.
If you want to control your weight and keep fit, then this book should be one that is on your bookshelf.
I have been fighting my weight for years, as an obese woman I have tried many diets and failed. I was a part of the yo-yo syndrome. After reading this very informative book, I gained a better understanding for "Healthy living," not dieting. I learned I must make healthy eating and living; a permanent part of my life. I learned that breakfast is truly the most important meal of the day, and I learned that I could have a healthy snack during the evening time. The most important information in this book for me was, sleep and stress, I battle with this every day and the author gives such sound advice for getting better sleep. I will be incorporating the authors advice to my new healthy lifestyle. I advise anyone that needs this kind of information to get this book!! It will be worth your time and money!!! Get your copy today!
It touches on some interesting points however it is a little "lean" in providing comprehensive details on menu items or in recommendations for exercising. It is really just a basic guide. If you are new to the weight loss issue you may to add this book to your must read list.
