Veganism isn’t about omission as much as it is about inclusion, and that’s what Charles Thornton’s book talks about in a very easy manner. You don’t need to be a rocket science to discover a kaleidoscope of foods that you may skip out on at the grocery store. Pragmatic, poignant and thorough, you get a sense for weight loss as a vegan and for those that aren’t quite there yet, a guide to look at the way of life in a whole new light. I found it well written and will definitely be reconsidering my lifestyle to fit this path of great health. Test it out, you’ll be surprised.
I was not impressed with this book with very little take away and almost no helpful guidance. The main fact presented tells what we all know: The human body is a relentless and accurate calorie counter take in more than needed to maintain life you gain wieght - take in less and you will take off weight I suspect every reader already fully understands this from life experience.
Information aimed at vegans was either incomplete, questionable, undocumented, or all the above, as well exceedingly limited in volume and even more so in application. A complete waist of money in my view
Can't recommend this book.......particularly for Vegans but actually, wouldn't recommend it under any circumstances.
Only because I purchased whisper-sync with it did I complete the book.
I am not a vegan, and I found every bit of information very useful and applicable to my lifestyle. Thornton's winning approach hits the nail on the head by addressing the core of weight loss - conquer the challenge in the mind first, by helping us, the readers, understand the theory of how our bodies function. Once we appreciate the wonder of how our bodies use energy (calorie); the value of macro and micro nutrients; why junk food is junk; the importance of not using eating to soothe or for comfort; controlling portion sizes; and the error of mistaking craving for hunger, then it becomes easier to change our habits, and weight loss no longer becomes an on-going battle of deprivation referred to as `the grave of many diets', but instead, it becomes a lifestyle.
Thornton delivers his message clearly, conversationally and chronologically so that it is very easy to understand. He in effect, takes what can be a biological maze and places it in a palatable way, in the hands of ordinary persons. Now I understand what my Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is and how to calculate my daily caloric requirement! Not to mention the inexpensive suggested forms of warm-up and exercising!
The audio book version is most applicable to the book achieving its objective as the reader can follow the instructions while doing the exercises. It also promotes multitasking such as listening while driving or doing other things, in order to reinforce the facts and concepts outlined, thereby strengthening the lifestyle change.
Thornton's underlying theme throughout the book is music to anyone's ears. It calms overwhelmed, frustrated nerves, re-directs focus and motivates the weight loss enthusiast to achieve his/her goal...
Slow and steady wins the race,
Slow and steady loses weight.
