Action-packed English crime-drama.

Plot:

An up-and-coming London detective (Max Lewinsky) gets shot in the leg by a notorious criminal (Jacob Sternwood) during a bank heist. The injury he sustains makes him limp. He becomes obsessed with catching the guy who did this to him. Few years later, an opportunity arises when the criminal's son, who also happens to follow in his father's footsteps, gets caught. The detective uses the son as a bait to lure in the criminal father. What the detective does not know is that the son is involved in a wider criminal scheme that will involve corrupt police officers, politicians, prominent weapon manufacturer, and a group of mercenaries...

What I have noticed lately is that James McAvoy has become a sort of English version of Leonardo DiCaprio...they almost look identical and both have made similar type of movies...ranging from comedies, dramas all the way to action.

Welcome to the Punch (2013) is just like other police-crime-drama-action movies made in England. So you if you liked: Blitz (2011), Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998), Layer Cake (2004), Get Carter (1971), Long Good Friday (1980), Revolver (2005), Rock n Rolla (2008), Snatch (2000), The Bank Job (2008), Blood (2012), The Crew (2008), Clubbed (2008), Bonded by Blood (2010), Essex Boys (trilogy), and a bunch of others...you will most likely also like this one.

I said that before and I will say it again: England (Great Britain) produced and is still producing ----the best action-police-crime movies in Europe, and one of the best in the world---- !!!

Welcome to the punch , well James McAvoy is a good actor but this movie is lacking it's not bad but it's not compelling. Will it pass 2 hours of your time ..yes but if your like me I want those hours pass interestingly. I lost interest in this movie. The movie seem like it got edited badly or it was missing something. Plot McAvoy was at the beginning of his law career a rouge fearless policeman willing to take extreme risk in order to bring a criminal down. He's closing in on robbers in a full on chase when he is badly injured by the leader of gang who give him a life long injury but does not kill him which he easily could have ...This injury that affects him daily makes him embittered and literally slows him down mentally and, physically. This also makes the man who scarred him for life his nemesis in him mind. The criminal who mame him is riding under the radar successfully when his teenager son is mortally injury this bring him out of hiding to help his son and back into the life of McAvoy. IF you like movie like Taken, The Fugitive, etc you like this cat and mouse foreign movie which is on those lines but it won't leave a lasting impression after you turn the TV off.

This movie was a great movie starring James McAvoy as a police officer proving what an awesome actor he is. It was full of action and drama. Had an unexpected and surprising ending. I loved every minute and didn't expect how it ended. Another great job by James McAvoy.

You need to be able to deal with British films to fully enjoy this one. There is plenty of action so I was happy right there. This has a twist and turn storyline that keeps you guessing who's who. I think one of the reasons I enjoyed this so much is that real life stuff happens. In most police action movies nobody gets in the way, no one falls down doing these stunts, bad guys surrender when they get trapped. This seems more like real life chases scenes. The acting is convincing and the star is far from perfect.

What an intriguing movie ! Every time it is on cable I am drawn to it. The actors are great and the action and the intrigue just continues! Great plot with great bits of sly and dry British humor. In this country, the armed police are sometimes a problem, in Britian the unarmed police are the targets ! Funny how it comes around! Mark Strong is just that! Too bad great, criminals, could not use that talent for, greater things for the good of,the public!

I took a shot and bought this movie not knowing whether I was going to keep my hand on the remote to fast forward when necessary like I did with the regrettable purchase of "Bullet To The Head". I see other reviewers complain mostly about the story line; which in my mind was totally secondary to the characters and their intensity; especially since historically americans have a hard time understanding Brits to begin with. Even the score contributed to the tense atmosphere; I gotta tell you that I enjoyed it thoroughly!

The acting in this is great. I have to admit that I love James McAvoy for his stellar acting and for his blunt humor off the screen.

This is set in London but it's a sleek London not often depicted on the screen. The premise is interesting and the action is intense.

James and Mark Strong are terrific together and there's a wonderful supporting cast of good actors.

McAvoy and Mark Strong both give OUTSTANDING performances. Fun to watch from start to finish. I was a little confused by the story-line at first, but it was all tied together nicely at the end. Somewhat grim, keep in mind the subject matter, this isn't Alice in Wonderland, it's about gun running and crooked cops and politicians. Good writing and acting throughout.
