So I ordered this and received it fairly quickly. The things I liked about it were the articles, household budget, gift card registry, perforated shopping lists, the report cards etc.
However, when it came down to the meat and bones of the planner itself is when I found myself very disappointed. I think the publisher, with good intent, tried to create a comprehensive calendar at a reasonable price. But they overreached and missed the heart of the reason a customer would buy this.
For starters, the daily calendar and lesson plans are discombobulating. In my busy day (with 3 little ones)I don't have time to flip back and forth to figure what we are doing for the day. The teacher's day is on one page, each individual student's plans on another, the weekly plan on another...with a very short booklist. I could overlook all that but when I got to the daily plan, there is hardly room for versatility. For starters, there are no time slots and each of the boxes are already marked with the "lesson" for that time slot. I found that rather presumptuous. Since everybody's plans are different, they really should have left that area blank for the customer to fill in accordingly. Especially for me because I am not running my lessons in that order. Plus, there is no room for adding an appt, classes, or other plans in the day. And you cannot redeem this deficiency by adding into the monthly calendar because there is hardly room to write in the individual boxes.
Also, I thought each of the weekly planners were supposed to have a prayer list in the corner as a visual reminder but I did not see them in here at all?? publisher only offers a limited glance at the preview of pages on their website, for good reason? For the $50+ I spent on this planner and binder (which is hardly better than a piece of wall-papered cardboard) I consider it stupid tax on my part and lesson well-learned. In lieu, I will just DIY and use the free editable PDF planners other homeschool moms have made online.
This book was exactly what I was looking for, and while the price is a bit steep for a "calendar", I think this one is truely worth the money and will end up being a special book to keep after next year is over.
