Adam J. Whitlatch is the author of "The Weller," "War of the Worlds: Goliath," "Birthright," and "Vengeance For My Valentine," as well as dozens of short stories and poems spanning the genres of science fiction, fantasy, and horror.

A fantasy enthusiast from a young age, his interest in science fiction was first sparked at the age of ten when his father played the infamous 1938 Orson Welles War of the Worlds radio broadcast for him on Halloween. It's a tradition Adam carries on to this day.

Adam lives in Iowa with his wife and their three sons.

Close and lock the door BEFORE reading this story! Weller fans know that Matt Freeborn is destined for the life of a Weller but when he encounters mutants we all get a little freaked out. I like the circumstances of the way this story was written. Adam and other authors were invited to a writing contest. There were certain rules of course! Find out what they are and how Adam won!

This is a fun read! It is a stand-alone story about the main character from the author's "Weller" series. Matt Freeborn is a solitary character who struggles to survive in a dystopian Midwest wasteland by "welling" for the planet's most valuable resource: water. Great work from an author with a lot more stories to tell.
