This food has been producing a loose stool pretty consistently. The morning usually has a good firm poop, but it's hit or miss other times of the day.
Really disappointed in the packaging, specifically the removal of the Ziploc-type closure on the top of the bag. Now it's just basically open all the time. This is something I would have expected from one of the cheap producers of dog food who cut corners. Not from a "premium" brand like Wellness.
His stool firmed up and the transition was painless! I had found the one! He is obsessed with Wellness, and wont even bat an eye at other dog food if we are out and about visiting any of his puppy friends.
However, this food is not budget friendly for everyone. When I initially told my parents that I spent $62 on a bag of dog food, they almost passed out. I explained to them that even though it may be a bit pricey, I wanted only the best for my pup and I believe that's what I found.
I highly recommend!!!
Now the food. It appears to be well made given the ingredients, packaging, and companies reputation. The pup eats it when hungry so no problems there. Stools are normal firm. After a week there is nothing to tell beyond this, but I will regularly update the observations each month. I'm doing this for me as an experiment and is limited to one dog raised exactly like my other 8 were. We'll see if there are any tangible benefits to a "premium dog food diet". Those that say this isn't a premium dog food feel free to contribute to the "Good time Charlie" fund and I'll feed their 2.00 a pound core food. I hope this will give some insight to myself and others as to the relevance of feeding a premium dog food. Totally unscientific and self serving.
Update Feb/14/15: Our pup when offered this food alone isn't attacking it. Stools were somewhat loose. When offered the old brand I used for years, he loves it, and stools are less frequent and firm. The problem is he scratches from dry skin. This may have nothing to do with any food element. Wellness was helpful and we are going to switch to Core food. We'll know in about a month what the results are pertaining to dry skin and if it is food related. For now, not much to say validating expensive food.
Switched to Wellness Core grain free and am happy with it. Beautiful coat, healthy, but still has dry skin. Not as bad as before being switched to the Wellness products. If you can afford a decent food, feed it. This seems to be doing it's job. Their are others I am sure so try them out but at least give them a 2 month try before deciding if it's for your dog.
