Not a lot of this book was new to me - I know the importance of keeping a journal (self monitoring) and of getting my exercise levels up - but for there was just enough info in here to teach me some new things and to also reenergize my efforts.
I lost over 100 pounds back in 2001 (hard to believe that was 10 years ago!) and over the past 10 years managed to keep off about half of that loss and become a much more physically active person than I ever was back then. Armed with this book and the knowledge in it I hope to lose some of the regained weight again and get down to a weight I feel a bit more happy with.
I tend to read a lot about weight loss as it has been an issue my whole life (I was sneaking food and showing negative food compulsion issues even at the age of 6 or 7) and this was a rare book that actually helped me feel like getting that "healthy obsession" back!
Worth the 11 bucks.. get it now!
This book has a wealth of information. I started the program in May of 2012 and have lost 45 lbs. The Plan is an on going process, not a diet were you are recommended to eat specific foods. This is more about learning about the relationship of food and biology. Everytime I read the book, I find something else to try. After the first reading, I tried multiple ways to remove oils and butters from meal preparations. The first thing I tried was the advise to subsitute cooking spray for oil and butter in recipes. My family and I have greatly enjoyed the results. We find the meals actually taste better. I did not realize how much flavor oils and butter hide. I keep finding tidbits from the book to help me continue to find ways to lose weight, my goal is to loose approximately another 20 lbs.
My favorite chapter was the one about children and obesity. That chapter helped me to think about how I feed my now 8 yaer old son. I always had the rule to eat something nutritious first. But I learned that I had to really watch the other stuff. I started reading labels on snack foods and was shocked to see how many grams of fat were in some of the snack foods.Read more ›
