About Wendy E. Shepard
Having grown up amid the woods, fields, and small family farms of New England, it is no surprise that Wendy E. Shepard's first book, "Lucky to be Alive: A Love Story," is set amid the woods, fields, and small family farms of a Pacific Northwest island, where she has resided for over 20 years. Previously, she spent more than three decades working in New York City and Los Angeles in the arts and arts education; among other positions, she served as vice president of California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) and of Bard College. Nature has provided the deepest inspiration, and the most enjoyment, for her writing; the "Lucky" book is a narrative poem, celebrating the seasons of life as seen through the eyes of a Border Collie. Her plays have appeared in juried festivals, and her articles in a variety of publications. In addition, as founder of Wedding Scribe NW, she helps people create their own ceremonies and vows. She received an AB degree in English from Radcliffe College, with special attention to dramatic literature, and an MS degree from the Bank Street College of Education, immersing herself in the study of creative human development.
