This CD has a lot of word play, lovely vocabulary (just like the book) and lots of instructions to follow. It is very participatory.

In short, it's not a terrific toddler CD. It's simply too complicated. I think a toddler might enjoy the CD if you played it while looking at the book together. (I'm planning on getting the book to find out.) But, don't count on being able to pop it into your car's CD to entertain your two year old... unless he or she is already enamored with the story.

    Get this for a child
    - Who is old enough to follow somewhat abstract instructions. For example, the CD asks kids to "Move your hands to show what the following words might look like. Over. Under. Back. Up the stairs..."
    - Who has enough attention span to enjoy an oral story on it's own right
    - Or, who is already very familiar with the story and loves it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Quick under the duvet!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 18, 2012
Beautifully simple book that my 2 year old loves. The pictures are simple but perfectly suited to the story and the premise of a hunt is simple but teaches routines, order and gets kids up and on their feet. The actions that you can make up or see on youtube really enthuse youngsters and I've used this many times in school for reception classes to KS3 SEN pupils who really get a kick out of joining in with the storytelling. Add to that the possibilities for creative arts, kids making there own pictures/models and prints of the river/forest and bear etc...a winner every time.

Additional: Have recently been accepted on to a teacher training course having used this story in my interview with a group of Year 4s. We couldn't use the book, but had to memorise the story and justify our use of our chosen story. This story teaches order and sequencing and uses repetition of rhyme. The kids loved it, (even mentioned that in class they can do extension work such as their own pictures of the 'squelchy mud', acting and role plays etc). It grabbed their attention and the chase home up the stairs and under the duvet followed by a plenary review is one thing that really impressed the panel. If you haven't already used this in the classroom...I'd ask why not.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful board book!
Reviewed in Canada on December 31, 2021
Without product photos, I had no idea the board book would have such beautiful gold foil edges! It also has a nice thick cover that extends past the edges of the board pages (not a given with all board books).

I discovered this story through the TV show "Maid" and am so grateful to have such a sweet bedtime book for my (very young) baby, who seems to enjoy the repetition. I can definitely see it becoming a long-term favourite.
