Zac Hutches is a lost soul since the death of his wife four years ago. Not only was Laurie the perfect wife, but he felt he struck gold when he got the Holden clan for his in-laws. He had met her in the precinct where they all worked in law enforcement. Zac never believed in love at first sight until he laid eyes on Laurie Holden. They eloped three weeks after meeting each other, and not a day went by that he had not been thankful for that miracle. When Laurie was shot, and he lost her, he felt she took half his heart with her. He hadn't dated another woman since he lost his wife. Not because it would feel like he was betraying her memory, but because he hadn't felt any kind of attraction toward anyone else. Then he was sent on an errand, by his sister-in-law Emma, to pick up her best-friend from the airport.
When Zac first meets Chloe at the airport, he wasn't prepared for the force-of-nature that she was. And she wasn't prepared for how attracted she would be to this tall and handsome, blue-eyed stranger. Without even thinking she stepped forward and threw her arms around his neck and hugged him tightly. They were complete opposites. She is a South African bad girl and he is the all American hero. She is as lost and broken as he. There is no easy path if they ever want a Happily-Ever-After.
Zac Hutches filled my heart with so much emotion when he was first introduced and still does really. A love like he had for Laurie, his first wife, is all consuming but in a good way. He so deserved to find true happiness again and all along I was delighted with the idea of he and Chloe Jordaan becoming more than friends. She is a character that you can’t help but like immediately, I liked her in the first book and instantly fell in love with her again in this one.
This book has just about everything to wrap up a terrific series; a romance that isn’t straight forward and has you barracking for the lead characters to get off their behinds and move forward 😂, loads of different emotions that have you laughing one minute and on the edge of your seat the next, a great suspense story and drama with action to boot and revisiting of all the wonderful characters we’ve come to enjoy.
This is a wonderful story, I’m just a tad sad the series has ended as it really was so good.
Zak and Chloe both know the heartache of love and neither are looking for commitment. Their back stories and the losses they have suffered are dealt with in a sensitive and empathetic manner. Whilst there is sorrow there is also plenty of humour, and the characters from the previous books in the series make appearances throughout. I love the men and women living within these pages and the brotherhood between the guys in particular, which is full of warmth, friendship and love.
There are truths to be revealed and loose ends to be tied off and the author does all with aplomb. A fitting and enthralling finale with an epilogue that is everything an addict of the series could wish for....I received an advanced copy of the book from the author.

The final story in this amazing series, and it had me wanting to smother Zac with all the love I have in my heart, and become Chloe's new BFF.
Complete opposites, yet alike in so many ways, Zac and Chloe were destined to find each other. They've both experienced love and loss, which has led them to be afraid of giving in. Giving in to the chance of love and what it might bring.
Zac is still mourning the loss of his wife, but feels a connection with Chloe that's undeniable. Chloe feels the same, even if it scares her to admit. I love the fact they took their time to get to know each other, played a little cat and mouse, and just enjoyed spending time together.
With the Holden gang by their side, what could go wrong? Then again, there's always Wyatt around to stir the pot. I love this family, and all they stand for. They'll be in my bookish heart forever!
When Chloe was a child she believed in love and happy ever after however her past has shown her that it doesn’t exist. She is determined to never let a man get close enough to hurt her but that doesn’t mean she can’t have fun.
From the moment they meet the chemistry between them is off the charts, but Chloe is determined that they friends is all they can ever be, but can Zack convince her that he is the one man she can trust with her heart?
This an emotional story about two people who have been damaged by their pasts but in each other find a way to heal and a new beginning. It is sad to see this series end, but I have enjoyed everyone of the Southern Heroes.
