Frank and Kirstin have produced a remarkable work which provides a unique view into the life of a person (Frank) who was convicted of a sex-related crime more than 30 years ago, convicted and served a prison sentence. Although he has paid his debt to society decades ago, Frank continues to be haunted by the mistake he made so long ago. Due to the fact that he is listed on a Megan's Law website, Frank lost his business and his leadership of a non-profit organization. His registration, which includes his home address, caused Frank to almost lose his life as well when a young man he had never met broke into his home, waited for him and then tried to kill him with a hammer. Frank was the second registered person attacked by that young man that very day. It is a tragic footnote that Kirstin was sexually assaulted and murdered while visiting New Orleans on a peace mission only months after the book was published. Her murder may be due to the fact that murderers face less onerous consquences than those convicted of sex offenses. After all, there is no website that lists individuals convicted of murder.

I have to admit, the intro kind of threw me off. I thought it was going to be a book about spiritualism. The theme of "Grace" as a spiritual being is repeated throughout the book. But once the story begins, I was treated to an entertaining story of Frank Lindsey's alter-ego... a mascot for a festival. But what makes this book unique is it follows Frank's life as he tries to live a life with a stigma that surfaces when Megan's Law first required public disclosure of so-called "sex offenders."

It begs the question-- what good does it do to register a man whose offense occurred so long ago? This book illustrates the destructive impact of the registry to a man who had overcame his past to live a productive post-release life. Frank lost his business, friends, and even attacked by a violent vigilante thug (that story is not in the book, but easily found online). Still, Frank strives to overcome the stigma.

There are not too many narratives by Registered Persons; more books like this are needed.
