Found Weruva while doing an inordinate amount of research on wet cat food for my furbaby Alvin when he developed kidney failure. Did not realize that most cat foods contain ridiculously high levels of phosphorous and sodium. This version of Weruva TruLuxe fit the bill perfectly ... grassfed Australian beef with bits of pumpkin, sweet potato and carrot. He loved it! Although not specially formulated for treating this condition, and the high cost factor, it was well worth it. It is made of human grade products and produced in a plant that processes human food. TruLuxe Steak Frites (and another TruLuxe variety) sustained him for quite a long time before he began to decline. Although I search around for good deals on this brand and variety, I continue to purchase it for my Adrian as I am quite impressed with the results. The food is not overly processed and ingredients are identifyable ... not ground into mush. Would highly recommend!

I have spent literally hundreds of hours researching low phosphorous, low sodium, not-too-high carbs, not-too-high-calories, high quality protein, etc. etc. food for my senior cat with stage 3 kidney disease. His diet is now exclusively Weruva wet food, and Steak Frites is absolutely his #1 favorite. He never gets tired of it, and I love to see the little guy eating with enthusiasm.

My CKD Cat's Food is Eternally on Backorder

So my cat has CKD and obviously has to have a special diet. I normally get her royal canin (and there is one one kind she will even go near because she is the pickiest of the picky). I've tried literally every other food on the market and have not had much success minus the Forza food sold here on amazon (she gets tired of that though and I have to swap)
So, I looked through the values on this and they are within acceptable levels to feed a CKD cat, so I went for it. She actually will eat this. It isn't her royal canin, but she don't hunger strike with it, so thats good enough for me. If you have a CKD cat, you should talk to your vet if you are looking for a supplemental food for your picky cat - because this might just work for you.

According to our vet, the food caused Ollie to vomit straight blood. It also caused all of his liver values to reach dangerously high numbers. After 24 hours of iv fluids, and taking away this food, his numbers began to decline. We are no longer feeding Weruva. The vomiting has ceased and two weeks later, the numbers are back to normal.

I have a senior cat with all sorts of issues. Even in his youth he didn't tolerate wet food well (delicate digestive system), but he tolerates Weruva better than the dozen other premium brands I've tried. I always let him primarily indulge in dry food as it worked best with his system and he could graze as he wished (he's a large cat). Then about 18 months ago his kidneys started to show signs of decline (he's 15) and I needed to up his water intake--more wet food. People complain about the high water/gravy content of this specific variety but I'd buy the gravy as an individual product as my cat loves it! I try to give him a variety of Weruva flavors, but this is the only one he will eat every day without getting finicky (aside from Mediterranean Harvest, but he only gets fish as a special treat). I've had my cat on Weruva wet food for years--the Truluxe for the past 18 months. He can be picky with wet food, but he loves this variety and digests it well. It can be "watery" but for me (and my cat) that's a plus. It is expensive, and there can be inconsistency in terms of content, i.e., the ratio of meat to gravy is inconsistent between cans. So I'm not giving it 5 stars. But at this point, my cat gets this or I boil high-quality chicken for him myself.

I’ve been feeding my cat with this cat food for 3 years. I noticed that since they used the new packaging, there’s way more gravy compared what there was before.

Customers be aware! I’d rather them increase the price rather than reducing the quality in such a sneaky way.

I’m disappointed. Planning to switch to another brand. Right now the only reason I’m ordering one more is because I don’t have time to do research.
