Not a bad take on the vampire genre

Dracula 2000 was panned by the critics when it came out but it’s actually not bad if you look at it as a B movie. The story follows the revival of Dracula (Gerard Butler) and his search for Mary Heller (Justine Waddell) who is actually part of the famed vampire hunting family the Van Helsings.

There are some elements that really work. First, the story uses some of the classic elements of the vampire stories. For instance Dracula is a ladies man both feeding on their blood and seducing and turning others. Second, there’s some good imagery like Mary walking out into a hallway at her house that’s been transformed with red paint and red drapes the color of blood obviously. Finally, there are some action sequences thrown in as well. All together that makes Dracula 2000 not a bad horror movie.

an anomaly, this particular vampire movie, in that is sports a really nice mixed class of veterans and young actors, all of whom do an admirable job, or are just good old fashioned eye candy. Justine Waddell, the lead, is impossible cute, and very believable as the beleaguered "daughter" of Dracula who slowly comes to realize her fate. The first scene with Jeri Ryan: that outfit, and her twisting around in it: QUE MUHER! man, what a woman...of course she went on the have fame in the SciFi field...

Jennifer Espositio is a beautiful Latino actress who is very capable, and has been in many different roles on various TV shows.....you got Omar Epps here, and classic legendary actor Christopher Plummer....and of course, Gerard Butler, an unknown when he made this, was on track for great things in his career and he has delivered, and gives one of the best Dracula performances....I don't know how they can speak correctly with those stupid fang prostheses in their mouth! LOL.....

For those who love this genre, it will be considered a gem of a movie....very entertaining from start to finish, very sexy, but never in a gratuitous way.

Updated version of the Dracula story made during the Wes Craven resurgence that the Scream movies generated. The movie itself isn't half bad. It's populated with a ton of actors who were popular in the late 90's and the flavor of the movie is in that vein as well. You could say that this is a continuation of the Dracula story without actually being a sequel to any one version in particular. Christopher Plummer plays Van Helsing in an attempt to bring a certain pedigree to the movie, and a young Gerard Butler plays a pre 300 open shirted hunky version of the most famous vampire in the world. Overall the movie hasn't aged particularly well, but it's decent enough fun and will give you a good fix for Halloween.

Not sure what reviewers are referring to when they make comments like "bad acting". Seriously? Just read through the credits. This was an All-star cast most of whom went on to very successful careers. This movie is AWESOME! Great storyline, well directed, great cinematography, and yes GREAT acting. Definitely not made for "G" general audiences, but I think most over the age of say 13 will love it. Highly Recommended!

Campy, bad acting, Omar Epps is standout here for his bad over acting. However it’s a decent bad big budget horror movie. A times-capsule for the year 2000. Very early 2000s. Great rock soundtrack though. Decent performances from Gerald Butler and Johnny Miller.

Okay. I am biased and will give this movie three stars simply because a young Gerard Butler, one of my favorite actors, is in this. The difference in his early acting to now is evident, although he does approach this role tongue-in-cheek so all can be forgiven. The movie is campy, for lack of a better term. And while acceptable, not even the more established actors in this movie do anything that could be called a stellar performance.
Still, as I already mentioned, if you are a Gerard Butler fan, and especially if you're a vampire flick fan like me, this is one movie you will need to see.
Just keep a smile on your face, an open mind, and you will enjoy.
