However, if you plan to jog or run on it, this is probably not the optimal choice. It is very narrow so there's not much room for error in your stride. Also, the impact of running on it is fairly loud as it doesn't absorb the force much at all.
Walking: 4 stars
Running: 2 stars
In fact it's more stable than the Precor which used a fancy (but slightly wobbly) motor driven system for incline. It also produces about the level of noise as the old Precor. And the key for quick stops is a much more convenient design than the old treadmill had. Quite a bit smaller too, so it tucks into it's corner more easily.
I've encountered only two minor deficiencies, but given the amazing price (especially with Prime free shipping) I still have to give this one 5 stars for value:
- As others have mentioned, the belt starts with a jerk, and then adjusts smoothly to the speed you want. In fact, changing speeds after the belt is moving is smooth too. The jerk occurs only from a dead stop. Stand on the side rails at start up, and you'd never notice it.
- The deck is less "springy" than the Precor. While it's not like running on concrete, it's also not as bouncy as the old treadmill. I'm not sure if it's really a deficiency or just a matter of preference. My feet and legs feel fine after running on it.
Another thing others have mentioned is the fact that the display is not backlit. It my book this is actually a plus since the treadmill is in my bedroom and I don't want to be forced to crawl behind the machine turn off the display at night.
Within 30 minutes I found that one of the screws would not fit into the hole! Upon closer inspection that hole is blocked by an iota of dried metallic paint that I just cant get rid of. I get out my drill and try to drill it out. I get out my hammer and nail and thump on it a bit. I use my screwdriver to try and scrape it off. Nopes.
So I gave up and put in all the other screws and crossed my fingers.
It starts fine and I've been using it for about a week now.
I like that it has its space for keeping my Nvidia Shield and gaming on it with my controller! Or watch a movie. Or even read a book. The track is wide enough that I havent smashed my nose into anything ... yet.
The acceleration is a bit worrysome. My wife was standing on it and I wanted to demo it and pressed 3. She nearly flew off the thing!
The overall build feels sturdy, even with one screw missing. It holds my weight fine (200lbs) when thundering down the track at 6 miles an hour.
My cat seems to find it amusing sometimes sits on it.
Right out of the box, upon initial setup, as soon as I turned it on, the motor was making a ticking/clicking sound. It sounded like a clock. The ticking would intensify as you upped the speed. I removed the motor housing cover to see if there was a wire being tapped or other impediment, but found nothing. Everything was clean, brand new and looked fine.
I fired up the machine with the cover off and the ticking is definitely coming from inside the motor. I'm not sure how these motors are constructed but it sounds like what it would sound like if there were 8 metal ball bearings in a space for 9 and they were spinning and tapping each other as they went around. It is loud enough to be offputting and give you the feeling that something is not quite right. I've never had a treadmill with this type of sound so I was reluctant to use it.
I registered the product at the web site and attempted a live chat with a tech rep but despite reps being available by phone from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. MT, it seems their chat reps are only during regular business hours. I am on the east coast so I guess it was too early.
I called the number on the cover of the manual and was on hold for nearly half an hour. A young lady answered and I explained what was going on and she said they would be sending me a brand new motor with installation instructions. She said I did not have to return the broken one. I asked her if it was safe to use the treadmill with the ticking sound and she said it should be fine so for the next 7-10 business days, I will use it until the motor arrives. This beats having to get this huge, heavy item returned to Amazon.
I took off a star for the inconvenience of buying a brand new item and having it arrive with problems but it happens. They handled it very well and once the new motor is in, I will be using this treadmill every day.
