The device has many advantages:
. . 1. The LCD screen is big in comparison to its competitors.
. . 2. The buttons are easy to operate. There is no need to consult a manual or instruction sheet.
. . 3. It uses AAA batteries instead of expensive watch batteries.
. . 4. I purchased two West Bend timers 10 years. One broke down, and the other is still OK.
I have been using it for about 2 months now, and it has some interesting occurances. First, the magnet is intolerably weak. I got the timer, took it out of its box, and put it on the fridge. Fine. Then I used it. As soon as I touched a button(not even hard enough to set a number) it came crashing off the fridge. Pretty much that's the story. If you want to use it, you have to hold it in your hand.
The other frustrating thing...It only times 100 minutes. That's fine if you're making cookies or a cake. But if you want to time your roast while its in the oven, it sure would be nice to have more time.
Find another timer. This one keeps time fine, but if you are going to invest in a digital timer, get one that keeps at least 10 hours.
If you are going to buy a magnetic one, I suggest that you see it in person first to find out whether it sticks well.
The good: It has a clock as well as timer. it is sufficiently loud (and slightly lower frequency) tha my poor ears can hear it. This latter is the reason I purchased this timer.
The bad: It doesn't reset to the previously set time. Thus, when doing repeating intervals, one must press the hr/min/ sec button to count up to the desired time.
Update 2015-05: the real bad. The mechanical design of the timer is horrible. The magnetic back is held on by two very small soft plastic pieces, one of which broke within a month. The other broke within the year, and the magnetic back, which is also the foot that holds the timer roughly vertical, is no longer attached. Electronically and acoustically, the timer is fine. Mechanically, it is defective.
However the big defect is mechanical. The setting which holds the magnet/stand is extremely thin. It broke within 2 months. So a decent timer no longer can utilize the stand because the sockets that hold the pivots is very thin and weak plastic. By design, it is destined to fail there.
I would not purchase this again.

I just bought this timer this afternoon at my local hardware store; it cost a buck more than Amazon, but it was close at hand and I needed it now. I'll be taking it back. Read morePublished 3 months ago by papatch
