About the author

Harry Max Harrison (born Henry Maxwell Dempsey; March 12, 1925 – August 15, 2012) was an American science fiction (SF) author, best known for his character the Stainless Steel Rat and for his novel Make Room! Make Room! (1966). The latter was the rough basis for the motion picture Soylent Green (1973). Harrison was (with Brian Aldiss) the co-president of the Birmingham Science Fiction Group.
Aldiss called him "a constant peer and great family friend". His friend Michael Carroll said, "Imagine Pirates of the Caribbean or Raiders of the Lost Ark, and picture them as science-fiction novels. They're rip-roaring adventures, but they're stories with a lot of heart."

Mr Harrison did extensive research to write a credible story. Asking the question "what would the world be like if the KT comet had never struck the earth?" sets the premise of the story. The dinosaurs would be the dominant species on earth and would be masters of biological science. If you're familiar with Star Trek - Voyager, this book is similar to the episode "Distant Origin."
If you are a Sci Fi or Fantasy fan, you will really enjoy this book from one of the old masters!
Great characters, a very interesting plot, wonderful descriptions and a very immersive narrative.
Its a sci-fi classic and even if it is very different to what I usually read I enjoyed every single page of this book.
The story is about a human captured by the reptiles and raised by them. His escape and revenge is the story. Hatred by each species and lack of understanding is an ageless story line.
So glad this series has been released as the books are long out of print. Well done Harry Harrison, well done.
The LIZARDS rule, and their organic technology is far superior than man could ever imagine. The only problem is--the species hate each other.

I can't remember the other books in the series but you can read this as a stand alone book. There are 2 main protagonists in this book, the Yilanè and the Tanu. The Yilanè are the humanoid reptiles that rule parts of the earth in a society where they live in control of nature. They are a lot more advanced than the human population, the Tanu. These are the human protagonists in the story and are a lot more uncivilized. More hunter gatherers than advanced like the Yilanè.
It's a very good story told from a lot of different angles and perspectives; and the characters do evolve during the story. No characters come across as one dimensional. They are all fleshed out and you "know" them, plus what drives them on.
This book reminds me, to a small degree, of the Silurians from Doctor Who. However they differ because in this book the Yilanè are ruling parts of the world. Not hidden away and awakened in the modern world as in Doctor Who. Which makes this story really interesting and a great read.
I don't want to spoil the story as it really unfolds in a well paced and we'll written way. So the above is really only a slight overview. I'd highly recommend this book as it never drags and is a compelling story. Get it now.
Kerrick, a young Tanu, is raised by the Yilane so they can study him and hopefully better understand his kind, and how to wipe them out – this is the story of his life, his escape, and his revenge. It’s an intriguing tale, though there are rather too many invented terms to keep track of, many of which are unnecessary. This is definitely worth a read if you enjoy books about alien cultures, but some serious suspension of disbelief is required at times. The author also seems unsure of some of his taxonomy (for example, he refers to the sabre-tooths featured in the book as marsupials, yet attributes them to the genus Machairodus, which is part of the cat family).
If you like your sci -fi you should enjoy these books. Imagine 'One Million Years B.C' mixed with 'Planet Of The Apes' and you won't be far wrong. All that's missing here is Raquel Welch....unfortunately :-)
Highly Recommended.
The story follows a young boy captured by intelligent descendants of the dinosaurs in a world that did not see the mass extinction of these fantastic creatures. Instead human and dinosaur have evolved into intelligent species on separate landmass. But the world is cooling and the intelligent dinosaurs must find new homes across the sea. The stage is set for the first ever large scale conflict in the world.
