West Of The West

Obviously Goldroom have managed to strike up a record deal but, meh.

As for their debut album, I don't think the sound on these tracks of "West Of The West" could get any more electronic eighties retro as it was back then during that breakthrough time in music called the "nu-wave". This is a good thing, such electro is music to my ears and I want to hear more and Goldroom do not disappoint. So think keyboards, other musical hardware with outputs of such an inclined sound and personal computer produced music with the appropriate software. Fact, "The Fall" by Gorillaz was made almost in its entirety on an Apple Ipad.

So with that then, this was not much and never really was much of a trade secret, but hit up your search engine and search Protools or Fruityloops - with a bit of willpower and time you can be producing music just like this. Personally, I like how throughout the album it doesn't carry too much of a stupid masonic (freemasonry) narrative with any creepy owl hooting and common words or sayings which can be found lyrically in much other music, across the board. This applies to most popular music and can leave you scratching your head puzzled sitting there when you listen closely wondering what in the world they are on about. But Goldroom just for the most part keep it real really. The songs exchange between a male (Rooty) and female singer (Ruth-Anne Cunningham) and that makes a pleasant balance.

Four stars because although this is a good debut effort, I think they could have done more so here's hoping that second album will be an improvement then Goldroom can redeem themselves. Others have come and gone with strong debuts but then the quality typically subsides on the second album after making fans wait about two or three years as if they don't feel the need to put any work in. Goldroom like any other should be striving to be better and better each time.

West of the West is going to be iconic decades from now. This album is laid back but groovy enough to keep your toe tapping. The song writing is top notch and the vocals are rich. It's rare I can sit through an entire album and feel like I am on vacation. That's how good the album makes me feel. Goldroom is a talented producer and dj. He toured with a band at Something Wicked in Houston this year (in 2016) and they were awesome. I had heard snippets of the album before arriving to see them perform and they didn't disappoint. One of my favorite tracks on the album is Underwater!! Highly recommend this!!!!

I like maybe half of the songs. The good songs are really good though. I imagine anyone a fan of Goldroom has been waiting for this album for a long time. I think it could have been a stronger album but I didn't make it. Just sample it on iTunes and pick and choose what you want.

I LOVE this album. Goldroom is one of my favorite artists, with just the right amount of chill, great hooks, and perfect beats. This album is one that stays in rotation. Highly recommend. You'll be humming these songs in your head.

Fun. Funky. Good for the club. For driving. For just relaxing or for just having fun.
