My 10 month old Standard Poodle loves her toys. I suppose her favorite chewing toy has been the Kong Classic. But when offered the opportunity to test this Toppl, I was curious to see how "Lucy" would respond. Well, it was an immediate love affair.
The Toppl is very durable and has "fingers" inside, in which you can embed dog treats, mini carrots, just about anything that will fit in there. There is also a hole in the side of the Toppl and when the small and large sized Toppl are used together, it becomes an interactive toy. The dog must figure out how to manipulate the thing to get the treats out of the holes.
We'll also use this with peanut butter (put the peanut butter in and then put it in the freezer for a while.) When we go out of the house, we toss the "frozen" Toppl with peanut butter inside to our dog and it will occupy her for a long time.
My puppy has gnawed on this for hours and it's holding up really well. I haven't noticed any holes or tears. I think this will be a very long-lasting toy for her.
What happens when the toy eventually does rip, tear or become unusable? West Paw Designs has a recycle program where you can return the broken toy to them and it gets recycled and made into a new toy. What a great, ecologically sound program. I love it.
This is BPA and Phthalate free. It's also dishwasher safe. It bounces and floats. It's an all-around great toy that my dog loves.
I originally bought the small and large Toppl as a puzzle for my bigger dog. Parker is a 36 lb Feist mix. He is a destroyer of toys. West Paw is one of the few brands that holds up. I bought them because the small and large pieces fit together, and Parker loves puzzle toys. This one was no exception. He's a whiz, pulling them apart.
What I didn't expect is how much my little Pug would love it. I'll admit I was skeptical of reviews that said, "My dog plays with this, even with no treats inside." Really?! Yep! Maya loves this toy like no other. As a Pug, her favorite game is chase. She will chew on antlers, or bones She has the "S" shaped West Paw toy for tug, but it doesn't even compare to how much she loves this one. She will play with this for hours. Seriously. I put a little wet food inside one day. She played with it for hours, chewing, and carrying it around. I got her the big one because her flat little face often doesn't fit into cups. The big one works for her, and she loves it. . Don't worry, she quickly got her own. I wish I had found it sooner.
I have used the other shape Westpaw makes as well - the Tux, it works really well too. We have two dogs and we have learned that they do better if we designate a different toy for each of them, they learned it quick. The Tux design is great and we use dog biscuits in it or cream cheese or peanut butter,(that dog can eat anything!) we freeze those as well to lengthen the chewing time.
They are really versatile, we use them together as a wobble food dispenser and we use the smaller one open-ended with peanut butter. Watching our 50# dog eating PB out of one of these delicately is pretty cute.
Our dog also loves her "babies" - these are stuffed animals that she carries around and tries to share with us - they don't get chewed on. She has actually treated this toy like one of her babies, carry it around, but not chewing on it.
It's also fun to toss, as it bounces around wildly.
If I cared to wash them, these would still look like new, they are that well-made.
