If you like the movie WEST SIDE STORY (and I can't imagine too many people NOT liking it!), then this book will greatly add to your enjoyment of the film.
I already knew some of the facts about the making of the picture and its gestation from the Broadway show but nowhere nearly as much as is revealed in this book.
The information included is first-class and is extremely interesting. The book is printed on very high-quality paper so as to make the pictures included (and there are "tons" of them) display at the best quality possible.
Not only are the pictures included beautiful, the descriptions of them are truly informative. In addition Richard Barrios' overall style of writing is among the best available today. Frankly, the book is, for me, a "page-turner" and I finished it in just two days. I think that most readers would agree with me on that point. Of course this is only the first time I will read this book. As with all of his other books, I do go back to them and re-read them (I have read his others at least three times each) and I use all of them as references.
In my opinion this particular one is probably the most beautifully designed and printed one of any of Barrios' titles. (That shouldn't preclude your buying his other books as the quality of information and, especially, his writing style is the same in all of them.) You might think you'd rather buy the Kindle edition but I would strongly recommend that you buy the physical hard-cover edition. The book is that beautiful! (Of course you could buy both if you so chose.)
I pre-ordered it as soon as Amazon made it available and I have been waiting (very impatiently) for it to arrive. It is everything - and more! - for which I had hoped.
I will give this book the highest possible recommendation that I can possibly give. I am positive that anyone buying it will feel exactly the same about it as I do.

P.S. The night that I finished the book I watched the Blu-ray of the movie itself. I have seen the movie many, many times (I first saw it in New York in the late spring or early summer of 1962 and I have the Criterion [CAV - best quality] LaserDisc and the DVD as well as the Blu-ray edition) but this time I watched the movie with much new understanding and appreciation.
This is for all theater and movie musicals lovers! A terrific addition to our collection.
TCM - please release more books like “ West Side Story: The Jets, the Sharks, and the Making of a Classic (Turner Classic Movies)” from your collection of fantastic movies.
Thank you and stay well,

Also, I love the pictures!
The book gave me a wonderful insight into what was going on from various points of view - actors and actresses, directors, producers etc. Amazing photos too
Even has a preview chapter on the upcoming Spielberg version.
I cannot recommend this book enough.
