Praise for Hearts of Anemoi

"West of Want brings the human heartache of love and betrayal to epic heights in this turbulent tale of the West Wind and the mortal he falls hard for. The tempest of emotion swirling around the characters is surreal, intense and sensual — in short, exactly what a romance of the gods should be." --Abigail Ortlieb, RT Magazine

“Using ancient winter mythology as an allegory for grief, Kaye has written a sexy story that packs a powerful emotional punch. With a heroine you can root for and a hero who is a dream come true, NORTH OF NEED is pure winter magic and Kaye’s sparkling talent warms the heart.”
- Stephanie Draven, author of the MYTHICA series

Zephyros is the Supreme God of the West Wind, Guardian of Spring, and one of the four Cardinal Anemoi. If you read North of Need and remember Father-of-Time-resembling Boreas, Zeph is his brother. No minor deity here, and his power alone is something to admire. Kind and passionate, Zeph is the kind of man who loves with all his soul, even when he thinks it might end in heartache. He is both gentle and fierce, and so accustomed to hurt and betrayal that he lives a stark, solitary existence... until he meets Ella, that is.

Ella is a sweetheart who has lost everyone she ever cared about and just wants to make a positive difference where ever she can. She doesn't have any delusions of grandeur. Wholesome and reserved, determined and enthusiastic, Ella is the perfect match for Zeph. And boy do they have chemistry!

There are more private moments between Ella and Zeph than we got to see between Owen and Megan, so all you PNR fans will be happy to know that, and the scenes never get boring or repetitive. Laura Kaye writes extremely strong character relationships, makes you really feel their passion and experience their energy, and the first time Ella and Zeph get together? Gold. Pure hot, steamy, sweaty gold!

I practically bawled my way through North of Need, so the bar was set pretty high for this one. While i wasn't as blown away emotionally as i was with Owen's book, West of Want had some serious heart and just when I thought things were starting to get formulaic, the plot sprinted off in a different direction. I don't think we've seen the end of the non-romance portion of this story arc just yet.

This is the Laura Kaye I love! This book brings me back to the passion of Hearts in Darkness and the fantasy of North of Need, all wrapped up in one neat little package. Book 2 in the Hearts of the Anemoi series introduces us to the the God of the West, Zeph. (I have to admit I find the name Zeph quite sexy and will refer to him as that.) As typical of the ancient Gods he feels he has something to prove, and he is amazingly gorgeous and wonderful. Ella is strong, resilient, and unafraid to make the right, but not always easy, decisions. The fact that they are both tormented and hurt, wanting and needful, is essential to the story. And No one seems to have the upper hand. Well, maybe Eurus.

Even lost in all the fantasy the story always seems believable. The amazing descriptions of the Chesapeake Bay and eastern Maryland coast were essential to the feel of the book. And didn't disappoint. In fact the whole book was filled with vivid descriptions and writing that just captivated me. The characters were multidimensional and dripping with emotion. The fact that "Gods" were dealing with betrayal, death, and family turmoil just brought all the magic home.

I really liked the fact that Owen had an essential part in the story. (Those of you familiar with the series will know who Owen is) A lot of time in these romance "series" the characters are very different from book to book and don't reaper. Having Owen as a central player in the action and family was a touch I appreciated.

As usual the formula was there. Anemoi comes into the human realm and meets and falls in love with a mortal women. Mortal women accepts who he is, and his magic, and they try to build a relationship. The differences add some degree of difficulty.

The Hearts of the Anemoi is a sensational paranormal romance series that focuses on the mythology of the Anemoi "seasonal" gods. I enjoyed and recommend the first novel in the series North of Need, but I must admit that I enjoyed West of Want even more. One reason I enjoyed West of Want more was because Ms. Kaye expanded on the hierarchy and history of her mythological characters in this novel, which really helped me better understand the characters and the story. I also thought that Ms. Kaye did a fabulous job turning up the heat in this novel. The scenes between Megan and Owen from North of Need were hot, but the scenes between Zeph and Ella in West of Want were even hotter!

West of Want, the second novel in the Hearts of the Anemoi series by Laura Kaye, was another spectacularly well-rounded novel. This novel has it all: passion, personality, intriguing mythology, romance, true love, and hot sex! What more can a girl want?

Perfect for paranormal romance fans, West of Want is an exciting, enchanting story about two vulnerable, heart-broken characters. Zephyros, the god of the West Wind and Spring, is a sensitive hero who been abandoned and deceived by everyone he has ever loved. I typically prefer alpha males but Zephyros's brokenness won me over. He has a soft, sensitive side, but he is still very much a manly man who isn't afraid to kick a little ass if he needs to. Ella is a multifaceted character with a heartbreaking past of her own. Her parents died when she was relatively young, her ex-husband betrayed and disregarded her, and her twin brother, who was also her best friend, died. She is the type of character that you can't help but root for. Both characters are full of depth, personality, and passion. They have both been wronged in the past.
