I am using the parallel ruler to draw lines on printouts of topographic maps for the purpose of establishing UTM coordinates. Many topo maps supplied by the U.S. Geological Survey have Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) grid lines already printed on them, but some do not. The parallel ruler makes it easy to add UTM grid lines which, in turn, allow the use of a UTM grid reader to establish coordinates that can be entered into, or read from, a handheld GPS unit. This is very handy for determining where you are or where you want to go when hiking in rural areas.
I would definitely recommend it to others for this or similar applications.
