* Low Price * Ruler is hard to read
* Comes with cutting & scoring blades * Standard size cuts not highlighted (4" x 6", 5-1/2", 4-1/4")
* Extra blades are available to order * Hard to hold paper & ruler steady when cutting
* Able to cut 12" x 12" paper * Difficult to get a true straight cut (easily)
I wouldn't purchase this product again.
For refrence purposes I will tell you that my favorite trimmer is made by Stampin' Up!. I've used some Fiskars paper trimmers in the past as well. I'm noting this because by comparison I do not like the Westcott Paper Trimmer With Titanium Bonded Cut And Score Blades, 12" as well as the paper trimmer that I currently use.
blade is barely sharp at all along with not being deep enough! only use it for the lightest grade paper as possible (like printer paper)
it can't cut through even basic construction paper with out bunching up and ruining the paper
completely ruined a art project she was making for school
stick to a metal ruler and xacto knife!!!
** so since i'm stuck with this now i've been experimenting on how to make it usable
- the blade doesn't seem to go into the groove deep enough so save junk mail and other scrap paper to move what you want cut closer the blade
-also be sure to firmly hold what you want cut in place
So I ordered the Westcott Paper Trimmer.
It cut my time in half (haha, puns!). But seriously, this thing sheers through paper like a hot knife through butter. It cuts straight lines very well.
The only caveat to this machine is that you have to be careful how you line up the paper. The grid lines aren't very helpful, unfortunately. After a few tries, I got pretty good at eyeballing it. Now I can slide the paper under the guard and zip through the paper without trouble.
It even cuts through card stock well, although I will say that depending on the poundage of the cardstock, it might create a bit of a bent cut, causing the paper to have a bit of a lip, but that isn't an issue for me.
Overall, I would recommend this cutter for the cost!
It works OK as a trimmer. It cuts paper and cardstock. The ruler is very helpful and I'm happy with it overall, considering the price payed. Similar ones sale for 14.99 at stores like Tuesday Morning. I'm only giving it 3 stars because it's advertise as a scorer as well, but the scoring blade does not work at all. I use the bone folder from another board an run it in the little slot of this boar to score.
