Indoor Plug-In Corded Motion Activated Control

The Westek MLC12BC-4 eliminates the need to fumble in the dark for a switch or pull string. This light control allows you to turn on lights, radios, and other small appliances in the home when motion is detected and can be programmed to turn off after 1, 2, 5, 10, or 20 minutes.

The motion lens can either be mounted on a wall or placed in the included weighted base to sit on a table, counter, or any flat surface for optimal positioning. The sensor has a wide, 100° detection zone and can detect motion up up to 25 feet away, making it perfect for laundry rooms, garages, living rooms, basements or attics.

Like some others have said, this thing tends to switch on without any reason. I had read those reviews before I ordered it, but thought that it probably happens due to pats walking past this device, curtains moving in the breeze, or maybe even changes in air temperature due to a heating vent or the like.
I installed this thing in a closed pantry where there's absolutely no movement of any kind. So there wouldn't be any random activations, right? Wrong! This one looked good for the first two days but then started to come on every half an hour or so. Quite a pity, as the overall quality and design looked quite nice. But it's unusable in this state.

Computer, UPS, network switch, & more are under my desk. It's very dark under there, even when the room is bright, and whenever I wanted to mess with the snaggle of cables (power, USB, network, more) I had to bring a flashlight. Not any more.

Now there is a string of LED "under cabinet" lights attached to the underside of the desk, with this motion detecting switch to turn them on. Works perfectly. The motion sensor unit is placed off to the side and far enough behind stuff that it doesn't turn the lights on when my feet are under the desk - only when the rest of me is crawling around under there. Love it.

The motion detector probably deserves five stars, but I give it four because of the manufacturer's terrible product description, which is basically an advertisement for the manufacturer's products and adds no new information at all. It could mention that there is a rotary switch to select off times of 1, 2, 5, 19, or 20 minutes, and that the off time begins with the last-detected motion, not the first. Might mention that there is a delay of a couple seconds for the unit to switch on after motion is present.

The initial item I received was defective, and would constantly trigger all night despite no motion being present (I tested this by covering it with a blanket, and it still kept triggering).
Returned the defective item to Amazon for a replacement, which works exactly as described.
I like the fact that the sensor is separate from the power unit, which allows you to place it exactly where you need it to get the coverage you want.
Looking at the other reviews, it seems that there are a lot of defective units, but some of them also definitely work properly (like the replacement I received).
So if you're willing to take a gamble and replace if necessary, there is probably a usable one waiting for you.

I bought this for a el wire sign (and inside joke between my roommates and I) I made so that when someone walks into the room it lights up. It works well and I haven't had any problems with it so far (it's been about 6 months). I like the different settings so it automatically turns off again after a time of no movement. In the picture I included you can see the sign lit up and in the bottom right corner is where I plugged the sign into the motion sensor. I keep the sensor near the doorway so when anyone walks in it automatically turns on.

Not very versatile in the garage

Absolutely useless. You can't install these on the garage ceiling to detect motion below. These only work if they are sitting on a table or mounted flat against the wall. Unless you have outlets everywhere, these are useless. After 24 hours of lights being on in the garage we went to Menard's and grabbed a wireless motion detector instead - made by GE that was way more conducive and had a larger range - and with a wireless detector that works with a wireless outlet. No need for cords that are either too short or too long for the space in our garage. The wireless motion sensors at Menard's costs only a couple bucks more, but they work and are more versatile. Save your money. We'd return the Westek motion sensor, but you have to cut the package to get the product out.

I ordered this item about 6 months ago, it worked as advertised until about a month ago. The unit started switching on and off without any movement in the room including during the middle of the night.
I contacted the manufacturer via there web site sending a text message with no response.
When the unit works it is great but the manufacturers support leaves alot to be desired.

Like the classic punk band, this arrived D.O.A.

Updated: Amazon kindly sent a replacement unit. Tried plugging it in again, but the unit simply does not pick up occupancy. Even grasping the unit in my hand doesn't trigger the switch (it's supposed to sense body heat). Tried it in multiple locations (to rule out whether there was no temperature gradient in my initial location), with multiple loads (LED and incandescent lamp), from multiple distances from the sensor. The switch simply doesn't turn on.

The following is troubling: when you plug your load into the socket, you have to wiggle it in order for it to fully insert in the socket. The internal circuitry seems to be mechanically misaligned with the socket. Also troubling, when you disconnect the unit from the wall socket, the red LED light turns on for a split second and then fades away. Evidently there's some capacitive charge remaining in the internal circuitry, which discharges when mains is unplugged. However under no other condition will the red LED light (or the switch) activate. I'm now frustrated for spending a couple hours trying to get this to work, so I will be returning to Amazon for the last time. If I could give this a zero score, I would.

If you have a wall switch on the circuit that you're trying to control, I would highly recommend a Lutron Maestro occupancy sensor. They work fantastically.

Worked for first few hours.

Got it for a walk in closet that. I set the sensor at the back wall, about 7 feet from entrance, hung it up about 6 feet high. At first, it wasn't turning off, I had it set to 20 minutes. Switched it to 10 minutes, same result. Finally set it to 2 minutes, it seems to take a little over two minutes to shut off, but it does. It does the job, if things change I will update this review.

Update after 12 hours of use
Light stays on constantly, returning and not looking back. This is junk.
