I got 2 (for $2.25 each) of these for my candelabra lights and those on the fan.
Put one each on them. Now I am able to plug-in my favorite 14W CFL's on them.

The cardboard doesn't get warm at all during usage. I checked it multiple times (after 5hrs of continuous usage).
If you don't remove it regularly, this is a good product.

I am planning to buy couple more.

Bought these to convert the crazy candelabra sockets in my ceiling fan that only supported 40 watt bulbs. 120 watts for an overhead light?! Installed these, and then put in 3 - 26 watt CFL's. That gives me the equiv of 300 watts of lighting for only 78 watts. Amazing! Love it! Great little invention here! I'm using less power, and getting more light!

While I'm not sold on the use of cardboard the real reason for my lowly rating of this product is that the base is too short for some fittings.

The result is that power is not provided to the bulb.

Yes, others mentioned this in the review and yes, I was forewarned. At the price it was worth a try but I simply cannot recommend this adapter.

The many poor reviews and complaints about this socket not being able to make contact electrically with a candelabra socket are likely because the user hasn't yet removed the cardboard liner wrapped around the outside of the medium base socket.

I opened the package and imediately took a pair of scissors to snip the cardboard wrapper, then peeled it away from the metal socket. Not only does it seem a potential fire hazard to have a paper product in direct contact with a potentially hot light bulb base, it looks like crap compared to the shiny metal medium base socket hidden beneath it!

This metal socket adapter works perfectly for me. After removing said cardboard, it screws into the candelabra socket fully, and is more compact than similar plastic items sold by other manufacturers...

If you insist upon having something covering the outside of this medium base socket before you install it in your chandelier, I guess white vinyl electrical tape would do the trick...

That cardboard is probably intended to protect the metal socket from damage during shipment.

This works as expected. I would say these save lots of money right away. I was able to find a number of dimmable CFL at reasonable price ($3-$7 depending on brightness) in the standard size. However, even the cheapest dimmable CFLs in the candelabra size were easily $15 and typically around $20 per bulb. Automatically saving $10-$15 dollars per bulb just by converting to the standard size.

The only downside is that most CFL are larger than standard bulb so introducing these will only cause the bulb to take more space. I can deal with this in the lights I have, but if you have enclosures or limited bulb space, you may not be able to use the less expensive CFL, due to size and these will not help you cause. That's not a knock against these because the 4 of these I purchase have already save me around $60 by allowing me to use standard size dimmable CFLs.

Good idea! But the base is too short and does not make contact when your screw it in. This problem could be dependent on your application. I was simply trying to convert my lamp from candelabra base to E26 base so I could use a brighter CFL. Maybe your lamp would be different. But it did not work for me...

I ordered several of these to go into a new pendant fixture that took only candelabra bulbs. They are cardboard and metal to be sure, but they seem sturdy enough to do the job. Using compact CFL bulbs, they are still slightly shorter than the candelabra incandescent bulbs. I'm very happy, the compact CFL's are less expansive than the candelabra so eventually, I'll make my money back.

Does exactly what is needed and saved us a ton of money. The LED candelabra bulbs are way more expensive than the standard. Does not get warm and actually seems sturdy and well made. I bought some other plastic ones and most of those were broken in the package and made from plastic that is cheap. I did feel like I really had to tighten these down to get a good fit, but all in all a good value.
