Broken but enjoying it still

Broken but enjoying it still
Monkey got to my house with a broken arm unfortunately. Fortunately my son still is happy with it. He has been very excited to get it. He worked really hard doing extra chores to earn it so I was disappointed. The monkey itself does work like its supposed to (minus the arm ).

This toy was requested by a family member at our annual name exchange evening before Christmas. I for one thought this was no longer made as I have not seen one for years. The family member who got this, was absolutly thrilled.
and yes it looked like it was well made. I did not check mfg origin, but I can assume it was made, where else, China. Which brings me to my feelings. I will and have paid more for Items that are made by Americans in the United States, and when Company's stop being GREEDY and bring back manufacturing to USA, then and only then can we put America back to work and become the great industrialized Nation once again.

I brought it for my son's 11th birthday. He didn't like the Charley Chimp, but he was keeping his eye on this one for quite some time now. Anyway, it's well made, and it has a friendly face. The only problem was that the ON/OFF switch was on the bottom. However, It's durable and cheap, so I do indeed prefer this to anybody that wants a cymbal-banging Monkey but has a price limit under $30.

I would have given this 5 stars, but my monkey didnt come in the box as shown in the photo which makes me wonder if it wasnt a returned item? I took a star away as my message to American Science & Surplus. But I AM rating the TOY now arent I? This toy is worthy of purchase. Its cute, seems well made, does what it is supposed to do, and will entertain small children! I would buy it again.
However, I do not see any educational value in this toy. You flip a switch and the monkey beats his symbols. Flip the switch off, and the monkey stops. Its pretty simple- a real no brainer really.

As if a dead-eyed horror movie monkey was not cool enough, I opened mine up and modified it's simple electronics with a remote control and voltage regulator to power it off the 2xAA's. Then I replaced my co-worker's Magic Monkey which has sat dormant on his desk for months, long forgotten, long since left to collect dust...waiting... After a decent amount of time had passed to allow my modified imposter monkey to assume his new identity, it was time. I activated the monkey from a good distance away while casually looking in his direction. I was hoping for the type of reaction that would have him questioning the paranormal pedigree of the monkey, or maybe even a startled stare into those unblinking blue monkey eyes, I would have even been happy if he smashed it with his keyboard, but it was not to be. Instead he just took the batteries out and kept on working (engineers). Unfortunately I did not account for that, and the later attempt was similarly anti-climactic, since the batteries had mysteriously reappeared in the bowels of the monkey (literally, that's where they go), he knew something was up. The only silver lining is that not everyone in the office knows just how magical this particular monkey is - or where the remote is.

Five stars even for the unmodified "Magic" monkey. Though they may not have remote control like mine, they are either creepy as heck or adorable, or both. Maybe that's the magic part.

Love this little monkey! Very cute just put in batteries and flip the switch! May cats are terrified by him so he helps keep them from jumping on my dresser and knocking stuff over! Whenever I feel down i turn him on and it always cheers me up.

I purchased this because it reminded me of a larger version that I had in my bar some years back. Pros; it's cute and makes plenty of noise. Cons; you must turn it on and off, it does not stop by itself. Not really made for children under 10 or 12 because it is fragile and can be easily broken. A great gag gift for that monkey in your life/group.

Each year, a musical monkey is secretly traded to a member of the family in their Christmas gift. Our old monkey wore out and did not work, so this is our new replacement. The original was given as a gag, since my eccentric aunt kept a musical monkey and I bonked it on the head too hard one visit, breaking it.
