Today, Westone has expanded its in-ear product line to provide unparalleled sound quality for all on-stage musicians, as well as for casual listeners who want a high-fidelity sound experience.
Established in 1959 as a custom-fit earpiece manufacturer, Westone has become known worldwide as 'The In-Ear Experts.' From its roots of working with hearing health professionals to produce custom-fit products for hearing aids and protection, Westone has expanded into offering consumer audio products and is the world's premier designer of high performance in-ear musicians' monitors and earphones.
Westone became a master of audio technology as the result of requests from popular rock musicians in the early 1990s. They wanted the ability to hear specific instruments or vocals while on stage yet reduce overall stage volume to protect their hearing. As a solution, Westone created the first balanced armature driver in-ear monitor that became the standard for professional musicians.

If the eartip is too small and doesn’t create a complete seal inside your ear canal you will lose low end frequencies. Choose the largest tip that is still comfortable for you. You may even need a different size tip for each ear. Make sure the right earpiece is worn on the right ear and the left earpiece on the left ear. The earpieces are marked, and when worn the cable should point to your front and wrap around to the back of your ear.

First, it's easy to get a really good seal in my ears. The thin sound tube seems to be reason, It allows fairly deep insertion leading to good isolation and consistent, comfortable fit.
2nd, I like the sound a lot. The bass is very tight and analytical with no bleed into the mids. It's also very flat with no obvious bump all the way down to the bottom. Low end extension isn't as good as the dynamic drivers in the RHA's, but I prefer the clarity of the W30s. Mids are very detailed and resolving. Each instrument seems to occupy its own well defined place in the sound and it's very easy to find texture I haven't heard before. The highs are laid back without sounding muffled or dark. It's easy to listen to these for extended periods of time without fatigue.
Overall I'd describe these as very analytical headphones with a flat sound profile except for the highs which are pleasantly relaxed. Very much a Balanced Amature sound with the associated clarity and detail, all the way to the bottom of their range.
I also read some other reviews with quality complaints, so I was a little concerned about that as well. I'm not sure what those who think the cases are cheaply made bought. My best guess is there must be some counterfeit W30s out there because mine seem well made. I can't speak to how he cables will hold up, but out of the box they appear to be high quality, though I agree the controller free cable is nicer.
Overall, an excellent pair of headphones which are worth with the insane price.
I just want to say the audio quality on the W30 is amazing. The separation, the imaging, the clarity in the upper range and the controlled boom in the lower is just not something you expect to get out of IEM’s. For those coming off of cheaper or even free IEM’s, these will not disappoint. They have a way of sounding like a good pair of open back headphones despite being tightly packed in your ears. I don’t want to make this into an in depth review of frequency response and rolled off highs and so on because what sounds good is subjective and there are a lot of places to go to for charts and precise reviews. All I will say is that the W30 has somewhat neutral tuning with excellent near analytical treble, good mids, and mostly tight punchy bass. If this is your first pair of higher end IEM’s above the $100 range you should notice.
These come with a healthy amount of accessories and probably the most I’ve seen included in IEM’s or headphones. The usual assortment of eartips are included but I ordered some comply tips and prefer them for their comfort and isolation. The case is a solid and sturdy waterproof case and it comes with two cables using the mmcx connection. One cable uses an inline remote and mic for iPhones and the other is their higher quality braided cable.
I’m not a fan of this cable and this was the first point of disappointment. The cable feels rigid and fragile and has a lot of memory so my cable has been kinked from the way it was folded and tied in the box. In terms of audio quality I have no complaints but I quickly replaced it with a cheap aftermarket balanced cable and have not looked back. I do appreciate the inclusion of two cables but I expected more from their higher end cable.
My second point of frustration comes with the accessory shells or c-clips that add aesthetic variety to your IEM’s. The idea is excellent but the implementation is not successful. I had read a lot of people complain about broken clips but didn’t expect them to be too bad. One of my black clips was cracked out of the box and the other cracked after one day of use. I found this to be unacceptable as I had no desire to use the included blue or red clips. After getting in touch with Westone they were quick to address the issue and mail me two more sets of the black clips at no charge which I definitely appreciate. The issue is that even with new clips, considering how fragile they are am I just going to have to keep requesting more clips as long as they are in warranty? I don’t see anywhere that the new clips are made more durable and so at some point I might have to use clips in colors I don’t like or maybe no clips at all. For the price and Westone reputation this is very disappointing and along with the cable, the reason this set of great sounding IEM’s gets 4 stars instead of 5.
Moving past these issues, the comfort in these is fantastic and almost too snug to the point that it takes me a moment to actually pull them out. They really fit the curves of my ears very well and together with the comply tips will not fall out of my ears. They also seat deep in the year so they feel ok lying down with them.
Overall I really like these IEM’s. I found a solution to the fragile c-clips but if I didn’t I might consider them to be near a dealbreaker for me despite so many other positives but I suppose if you are careful this may not be an issue. Also while the cable was disappointing it is functional and you get two where a lot of other companies give you one. There are a lot of companies putting out good IEM’s in this price range and they don’t have cable issues or c-clip issues so these can be a little hard to recommend for the price. In the end I think in terms of audio quality, the W30’s punch above their price class and if you can get past the other issues I can recommend them for superb sound.

Sound quality isn't bad - especially considering their tiny dimensions and how comfortable they are for extended use.
However, they lose one star for not having an Android compatible remote control - come on, not everyone has Apple phones!
The second cable in the box is a nice cable without remote control and is what I have been using on my Android phone. However, after a few months I have noticed crackling in the right ear phone. This got worse until it stopped working altogether... Taking the removable cable off, it appears that sweat had seeped into the connector and corroded the metal resulting in a poor electrical circuit. Even after cleaning with electronic switch cleaner the sound wasn't much better - the right channel also seems to be looser than the left... very odd! So the second start was lost here...
I have since bought a replacement cable that works really well. Check my reviews to see which one!
Noise isolation with music on is great, even at fairly low volumes.
- Extras are really great. 2 detachable cables, 1 with iphone control. It works on my LG 3 but only the play/pause button not the volume button. I presume this works on an iphone. Plenty of ear tips silicone and comply of varied sizes. A cleaning tool. Very sturdy snazzy looking carry case and changeable faceplates. I have put a blue on one earpiece and acred on the other so i can tell left from right easily.
Cons:- The cons are only slight compared to the pro's. One is the actual look of the earpieces. They look like shiny acetate plastic units. After using them for a month or so now they are sturdy and well built but my initial opinion is they didn't look substantial, especially when paying £250. My 750i's look better for the money. Don't let it put you off. If sound is your priority and not how they look get these.
The mic button cable is a bit tangly but it's bearable.
