I got my first set when I was 13 about 25 years ago. At that time the rackets were all black and the balls were orange. If you are buying because you had as a child, like I did, you'll note once you receive the set that they are very similar, the colors are a little different though. I still have my old set, but wanted to add more rackets for more people. The balls on the newer set are definitely a little thicker and a little heavier. I found it does change the way the ball flies slightly but not necessarily in a bad way, just different. The old ball being lighter spins more and curves a little better, while the new ball is better for straight shot throwing but you can still curve it pretty good with practice.
In the box:
Rackets (2 plastic rackets like lacrosse nets only hard with an interior track that helps whip the ball from the racket and direct it into the cup of the racket when catching the ball)
Balls (2 Plastic hollow balls, fairly light)

Here are the general Pros/Cons/Tips.
Pros
-Great Lacrosse Catch Type game, very fun
-Gets the kids and the adults moving around in the yard for exercise that doesn't involve the Wii, thats still enjoyable.
-Challenging to play and you can create different variations of catch games
-Create some wicked curves with the balls in every direction, I think I shattered the space-time curve continuum once.
-All ages (almost) can enjoy it.
-Something that you can start off with slow and gradually learn the different moves if you have younger players.
-Inexpensive game that provides hours of outdoor entertainment.
-Easily expandable, buy more rackets.

This is some of the best gaming action I have had with my kids in a while. I pumped the game up alot before it arrived. They were stolked and fighting for a turn to play. We played until we had to go for a previous commitment. The next day they were ready to go again.Great for eye hand coordination and they learn not to be scared of the ball. It seems to float from one raquet to the other while curving and dipping. The distance is GREAT it gives them time to coordinate the catch.

This brings me back to my youth. My kids love it and it keeps them off the video game. Anytime I ask my son he is more than willing to play!

Trac Ball is just as much fun today as you remember it as a kid.

While growing up my friends and I developed dozens of Trac Ball related games. Some were like LaCrosse while others were like a stationary version of Hockey (two people and two goals). We developed new techniques for putting spin on the ball and created ball flights that seemed to defy the laws of physics.

It is now 20 years later and I have found that my wife and I still enjoy Trac Ball as a way to get some exercise. Unlike baseball or football it is easy to play catch with Trac Ball and not worry about giving your significant other a black eye!

Pros -

- Easy to learn
- Maintains its "fun" by the number of ways you can learn to curve the ball.
- Very easy to "invent" games
- Safe - the ball is lightweight plastic
- Fun for all ages - I have been playing since I was about 5 years old
- Everything is plastic so it is completely water proof... fun for the beach, unless the ball floats away in the water.

Final tally - 5 stars

Fun toy from childhood. Not the same ball or as well built. But played with a 6 yo boy and 8 yo girl and they both had fun.
Wanted to play multiple days in row. Not super curvy like old time, but a good distraction from work while getting a little exercise and hand/eye coordination...
