Michael Everett Brown, M.D., is a board certified Emergency Medicine physician currently practicing in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was a volunteer firefighter in Westbury, New York, for over 12 years, a New York City firefighter at Engine Company 37 in Harlem for four years, and is currently a member of Nevada Task Force One Urban Search and Rescue Team. In 2001 he received a United States Congressional Recognition Award for "selfless acts and commitment to his profession above and beyond the call of duty."

"We Will Never Forget". This was said many times post 9/11. For the people who were not directly involved time has faded the true meaning of that statement. A chance meeting with Michael Brown in a quiet Las Vegas bar. A conversation that started about New York and turned into stories from a few "First Responders".(I I guess that's what they call us now). Anyway he mentions the book, so I read it. It is one of the most honest and truthful books I have ever read. If you ever wondered exactly what took place in New York on 9/11, you have to read this book. If you are a current or prior "First Responder" it is a difficult read, but well worth it. I highly recommend it.

This is not only the best book that ever has, or probably ever will be written on the subject of 9/11, it is one of the best books - period. It becomes a "Gone With the Wind" wide-angle view, seen through one family. Very few writers have Brown's ear for "the music of the words" - and for that reason this book reads like others who were born with this talent: Stephen King, Kurt Vonnegut Jr, Ray Bradbury, Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke, Harper Lee. With such music, Brown has written history, much of it unknown or already forgotten.

I’m so glad I read it, as it brought back memories of that day. The Brown family, NYC, and the FDNY sadly lost a true hero but what an amazing man he was. Now, I want to visit the WTC museum in New York!

I recently met Mike Brown and he told me he was an author...in addition to being an ER doc. I asked about his book, what he had written and what it was about. He told me it was entitled "What Brothers Do". That was it...short and simple.

My curiosity was piqued. That evening I searched for the book and I am glad I did. The book describes in great detail the love he has for his brother Paddy Brown and the pain and love endured in the days after 9/11. This book is a window into the lives of those who lost so much in the World Trade Center attacks. Although we heard so many accounts on the news in the days and weeks that followed, we grieved for all lost. This book details the search, the hope, the realization and the closure one family lived. And it recounts the life of one of FDNY's most decorated firemen.

The book will make you laugh, and make you cry. It will make you grieve loss, but also celebrate life. A good read.
