Review

"Wow-this book is a real eye-opener. . . . Eldon guides you to examine your deepest thoughts, beliefs, and desires.?While his process can be challenging, I recommend that you stick with it, as it can be the catalyst for profound breakthroughs. What If? is unique, provocative, and transformational."

 - Marci Shimoff, the New York Times best-selling author of Happy for No Reason and co-author of Chicken Soup for the Woman's Soul

"I simply love this book. Eldon writes in a brilliant, thought-provoking style, challenging and encouraging us to be fully present to our life's journey."

 - Colette Baron-Reid, internationally renowned intuitive counselor and the best-selling author of Messages from Spirit and The Map

"Few are the authors who turn you inside out, who blow up your preconceived notions and cause you to become honest with yourself through and through. That's precisely what happens when you read What If? I highly recommend this book to those spiritual warriors who are un? inching in their journey to the Authentic Self."

 - Dr. Michael Bernard Beckwith, founder of Agape International; author of Spiritual Liberation

"In a world where governments, corporations, and religious institutions compete to capture our attention and then mold our thoughts about ourselves, Eldon's keen insight into this struggle is a valuable asset for anyone desiring to rise above the fray and regain control of their own mind. The power to be con? dent and comfortable with oneself as an individual without blaming others brings great freedom. Well done."

 - JZ Knight, author of the best-selling autobiography A State of Mind: My Story

"If, like Neo in the film The Matrix, you are ready to swallow the red pill, then consume Eldon Taylor's book What If? The Challenge of Self-Realization and wake up in a new reality where you'll discover truth instead of illusion . . . . Or-your choice-you can continue to take the blue pills, leave the book on the shelf, and the opportunity ends. Nothing will change. Life will go on as usual and you can believe whatever you want to believe."

 - Thomas Campbell, Department of Defense and NASA consultant, physicist, and the author of My Big TOE

"What a perfect follow-up to Eldon's last three best-selling books-I love it! Rather than trying to convince you of the validity of thought control, Eldon peels back the layers of your own mind and helps you separate yourself and your beliefs from those foisted upon you by society. If you truly wish to do more than just give lip service to personal empowerment, this book is a must!"

 - Peggy McColl, the New York Times best-selling author of Your Destiny Switch

"Eldon Taylor has broken the mold of most self-help writers as he tackles head-on many taboo questions. Bold, forthright, and most certainly profound, What If? The Challenge of Self- Realization takes the reader on a number of thought experiments to expose how much of our power we've given away. The lessons in this book are vital if you wish to experience what it is to be free to reach your highest level of self-actualization."

 - Dr. Nick Begich, the author of Controlling the Human Mind

"Personal empowerment just took a quantum leap in this astonishing book by Eldon Taylor. What If? The Challenge of Self-Realization consists of a series of thought experiments that will move you out of the rigid beliefs you didn't even know you had, into a way of life that allows you to fully express your amazing uniqueness and gifts. I highly recommend it."

 - Crystal Andrus, the best-selling author of Simply . . . Woman! and Simply . . . EMPOWERED!

In Eldon Taylor's typical thought-provoking style, he takes you on a journey of topics that will open up your belief system so that you can exam it... and then make improvement where you feel they are needed. He exposes the fact that Society is competing with you to take control of your mind. He then guides you in taking back control where you might have relinquished it.

Eldon helps you to acknowledge that we have all struggled with our own thoughts and choices... some more than others... and that it's okay. And he not only encourages you to take more responsibility for your thoughts and decisions, he provides some great examples to ponder and tools to use to make better choices.

By taking control of your mind you will find that the universe helps you to find the answers and to bring what you want into your life.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is ready to take on a more mature outlook... to be your own person... and to do your own thinking. People who are on the immature side (and like it that way)... probably won't enjoy this book.

I loved "What If" . . . What if you did too?

Another book that really appealed to me a couple of months ago and I'm still passing it along to all my friends is from Madeleine Kay called Serendipitously Rich: How to Get Delightfully, Delectably, Deliciously Rich (or Anything Else You Want) in 7 Ridiculously Easy Steps.

I have never written a book review here on Amazon, despite the glut of good reads I have purchased here. I generally find myself in consensus with the majority of reviews, and thus feel I have little more to add. On this book, however, I felt the compelling need to speak out. This book should have been entitled, "What if you believed what I believe, and you should!" I agree with the other reviewer who said that this is a book about what Taylor believes, and his attempt to convince you of the veracity of his beliefs. He then includes a few simple-minded cursory questions at the end of the chapter that are supposed to challenge, but are nothing more or less than wimpy. What if you believed this? What if you didn't? I kept moving chapter to chapter, hoping that things would improve, but I was sorely disappointed, and found this book an insult to my intelligence and a slap in the face to those of us truly seeking self-realization through honest, thorough, and challenging exploration of our established beliefs, with the hopes of breaking through to consciousness expansion and personal growth. Save your money (or, as in my case, your charge card reward points), and look elsewhere for the honest and rigorous self-examination for which you seek. You will not find it here.

When I first started reading What If?, I got quite irritated (as the author warns that you will). I sat it down for a while and then came back to it. I'm glad I did. Eldon Taylor argues for and against some of our most ingrained personal beliefs - such as capital punishment, abortion, and taxes. He takes us through "thought experiments" - some real and some imagined - to bring us to question what we think to be true. Then he follows each thought experiment with tough, thought-provoking questions.

One of the most thought-provoking questions for me was, "If this were true, would you behave any differently?" To put it into perspective, one example where this question was asked was in the discussion of the existence of an afterlife. Taylor gives several different sides of the afterlife debate, and at the end of each he asks if you would behave any differently if that particular belief was true.

What Taylor does so well is to show that there really is no certainty in the beliefs that we hold. A belief we may cling to for years can one day be completely obliterated in favor of a new belief based on knowledge we have gained. Taylor goes through much of why we believe what we believe and the manipulation that takes place in order to get us to believe one way or another. He suggests that, rather than ever taking someone's word for something, we investigate it ourselves and come to our own conclusion based on the facts, not propaganda. I have seen this in my own life. Just in the last seven years my life has changed dramatically - mostly from personal experience and exposure to things I thought I understood but did not. My beliefs are unrecognizable in comparison to the beliefs I held seven years ago.

Just when, I think, I'm getting what things are "all about" and the direction that I have chosen, appears to be , on target, I buy this book. Eldon's book, will take you new depths. It is enlightening, it is informative, it is mindblowing, it leaves you with, one question after another. It is a story of life and mystery of the human physic. The question is, whose physic. Eldon's, mine or someone else's. I am left to question myself, on many levels. What if, Eldon, has it all wrong here. What if, our minds, are more black and white, than gray. What if, we are programmed, to "just be" I am still wondering, WHAT IF. Thank you Eldon, for the challenge !!
