I was not able to figure out "the who dun it" until the end of the story. A perfect cozy mystery while drinking a Latte. This book is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone. I highly recommend it.
I feel for poor Piper though. It's not the best way to start college!
Piper Denton’s life has been anything but easy. It was perfect at one time, but then it wasn’t. But she’s eighteen now, has her own apartment with a brand new roommate and a great job at a nearby coffee shop, The Perk. It’s the first day of class, the first day of her new adult life. What could go wrong? How about finding your new roommate dead in your new apartment! Things are not off to a very good start.
Piper is determined not to let this set her back. While the police are investigating the murder, she tries to get things back on track. She needs a new roommate and needs to go to her classes. She loves her job at The Perk and especially looks forward to working with her shift manager, Fitz. She’s been crushing on him ever since she started working there. He’s sweet and attentive but so out of her league. She’s convinced he could never see her as anything but a friend and co-worker.
Piper finally gets a new and very surprising roommate. At the same time, Fitz seems like he’s been dropping little hints. Is it possible that perhaps he could be a little bit interested in her? The police aren’t making any progress with the murder investigation and there has been another similar murder on campus. Piper’s Aunt’s book club, The Pleasant Valley Page Turners, decide it’s time for them to get involved.
First of all, the Page Turners are hilarious, especially one member, Edna, who is in her eighties, carries all sorts of things in her bra, and thinks nothing of wearing a leather biker outfit and going into a biker bar to help investigate the case. But one thing all the women have in common is that they all love Piper, and will do anything to keep her safe and find the murderer.
And then there is Fitz. I admit, he’s a little young for me, but he made me swoon. He was so sweet. And he cared so much for Piper. He gave her confidence, gave her courage, and made her happy. I think I fell in love with him a little bit.
“It’s just hard for me to trust people. Trust that I won’t get hurt.”
“You’ve got to trust someone. Can’t you start with me?”
This book was just so good. I started out thinking it would be a solid 4 star rating which soon escalated to a 4.5 and then jumped right up to a 5. So put on your detective caps, ladies, and join the Page Turners to help solve their latest case. And prepare to fall in love along the way.
There were a few parts where I thought I had figured it all out but then Jennie threw me into a new direction and I didn't see it coming. I fell early on for Fitz right along with Piper and I would create mysteries just to hang out with Edna.
I love Jennie's writing style, its like she writes with everything she has and every read has been a thrill ride with either solving murders, cowboys or my favorite the Hockey players.
I get gitty when she announces shes close to release day and its a total honour to recieve a ARC for my honest review. I can't wait for more!!!
Piper finally gets to start out on her own. She's had a rough time, her mom dropped her at her aunt's, her boyfriend dumped her, but, since finding the Page Turners, she's seemed to find herself. However, her first day of college didn't exactly go as planned....
This book is not only an adorable love story between Piper and her new man (I'm not telling you who!) but also a story of family, all mixed in with a little homicide. I could not put this book down. Jennie pulls you in on page one and you just can't stop. The Page Turners are as close as ever and Edna is even kookier than usual. Another triumph for Jenny Marts!!!
I love this group! Each member has their own strengths & flukes. Edna is a hoot! The scenes that she is in are so hilarious! I kept picturing my own grandmother with hair in Wild colors, wearing leather & saying what ever scandalous things came out of her mouth. To me, she totally made the book! If you like cozy mysteries with strong characters & some light romance, you'll love this series!
