Dani had come to the Devil's Dust MC seeking protection from her father because her mom has put them in danger. Her mom had always protected her from the world and wouldn't let her experience life on her own. She controlled everything she did and well, to be honest, what a bitch!! Well, she certainly found out about life within the club and she ended up fitting right in perfectly.
Shadow grew up in the worst of circumstances and found a home in the club. His brothers were like family, even more than his drug head of a mother. The things she done in this book made me want to reach in, pull her out, and beat her to death!! She really put poor Shadow through the ringer.
When Dani and Shadow collide, it is one hell of a ride!! Shadow has his secrets he's trying to hide but knows he has to come out of his shell to prove his love for Dani. Of course, his mom comes into play, and makes it even harder on them both. Shadow doesn't trust easy and when he finally breaks down those walls, he soon finds out he may have made a huge mistake!
The twists and turns in this book left me speechless and the ending was certainly one I wasn't expecting!! It literally blew me away and left me with a WTF look on my face. Shadow and Dani are one scorching hot couple and their loyalties are certainly tried in this one. This book pulled me in from the start and didn't let go until the end. I only hope M.N. doesn't make me wait long for the next book, because I'm hooked!!
What Doesn’t Destroy Us has been on my TBR for months and I could kick myself in the ass for that. This book/ series blew me away and I highly recommend everyone to give it a chance even if you are not a fan of MC romances…just trust me and read it! By 10% I was “in“, so caught up in this story that I knew I had hit gold.
Dani has lived life not knowing who her father is and being controlled by an evil mother. One night her mother comes and makes her pack a bag to hightail out of the state because she saw something she shouldn’t. Well, what do you know she is lead to an MC club where her father is the president so they can be protected. At first glance Dani is taken by the sexy as all hell biker, Shadow, but you know those MC rules…you do not mess around with the princess to the club. So, you can imagine the fun you’re in for! Holy hotness batman, the smexy scenes are smokin!
There is so much grit and depth to these character’s and the overall story. Twist and turns that I never saw coming and that cliffhanger..EPIC! Shadow, Dani, Bull, Babs and Bobby will turn into your family!
Dani and Shadow... I really couldn't see the appeal with these two characters. Shadow wasn't a bad character. He does so some questionable things... but then again he's a big bad biker. Dani was one the most annoying characters I have ever read about. I just couldn't see why the two liked each other.
There were some characters, though, that made the story a little bearable. I really liked Bull (Dani's father and MC president) and Bobby (Shadow's best friend). Bobby was just a riot to read about sometimes. I kept feeling like I'd rather read his story.
And like I said before the ending was pretty good and it really is. It was an unexpected twist for sure. I didn't think I was able to hate Dani's mother even more than I did through the book but the ending made it even worse. Dani's mother is horrible, Shadow's mother is crazy too. What is up with mothers in this book anyway?
Overall, What Doesn't Destroy Us by M.N. Forgy was so-so for me. Some things in it like some characters, the fact that it was a pretty quick read and the ending weren't nearly as bad as the rest of the book but it was still just a bit dull.
A sort of typical romance book:
***SORT OF SPOILER ALERT***
"Good girl" gets pregnant by "bad boy" and runs off, doesn't tell bad boy.
Has baby tries to "raise her right"
Returns to bad boy 21 years later in need of protection. The child ends up repeating the cycle with her own "bad boy", only she stays with him and they live, mostly, happily ever after. Mom ends up reconnecting with dad (probably).
The story has a lot of cliches and "of course this happens!" moments. I didn't have a problem with that.
The biggest issue for me is that the characters are all very one dimensional, very flat. They all use the same language. The "bad" characters aren't very bad and the "good" characters aren't very good. None of them read "true."
I may finish this book when I have more patience. Will update review if I do.
I was really trying to like this book. The editing and grammar issues were just to much.
The characters are speaking, and book goes to another story. I was trying to figure what I missed, it went into flashback with no italics or page break.
I love commas probably more than the next person, but sheesh, OVERLOAD!!
And the Insta love, they didn't even have to add water to the kool-aid.
This sentence, it just kept giving me flashbacks of creepy, science fiction eyes. I. Couldn't. Do. It.
Up close I notice his ocean blue pupils have a rim of stormy grey around them,
If this book ever gets a fresh editor, I may give it another try.
Read at your own risk.
