While everyone but the most shameless Hillary supporters are prepared to admit that the DNC, at the very least, placed its thumb on the scale to assist HRC in becoming the Democratic candidate in 2016, in "What Happened to Bernie Sanders" Jared Beck makes a much more provocative claim: that the DNC made Bernie's nomination an impossibility. Writing with the meticulousness of a lawyer, Beck compellingly supports his pessimistic thesis with a history of how the American judicial system has lost its independence as an institution and become increasingly beholden to the American political establishment. I was surprised by how little I knew about this history and how the rise of our two-party system was not some inevitability, but was shaped by our judicial system's efforts to ensure that anyone who challenges power in a meaningful way is effectively barred from power. Taking the impossibility of Bernie's nomination as a fact, Beck begins to grapple with the normative implications of the United States being an oligarchy rather than a democracy. Beck impressively ruminates on these implications in the light of the classical philosophy of Plato and Aristotle. The body of the book is rather short, about 100 pages, while the remaining 150 pages include the transcripts of the two court hearings and the DNC's charter in three appendices. These are valuable primary sources for the historical record, the existence of which many are aware of, but few have actually read in full. I would recommend "What Happened to Bernie Sanders" to Bernie supporters who want to understand how our candidate was robbed of the nomination, but seeing that the implications of this claim challenge the very core of our American identity as a free and democratic country, I think the book is of interest to any conscientious American. The fact that it is delivered in clear, academic prose, and is well-supported with citations, give it the power to persuade and change minds.

As a Bernie delegate who donated tons to Bernie's campaign and spent countless hours volunteering in the campaign, this is a very well written account of what really happened. Jared accurately reports the factual accounts of the events while avoiding having the facts clouded with what some call conspiracy theories and fake news and others swear are real. Meanwhile, I've recently learned that there were over 100,000 voter registrations that were never processed into the system just in Maricopa County in Arizona. Remember that's where we had 6 hour lines because they reduced the polling places and handed out thousands of provisional ballots to people who had their party registrations hacked to another party or were somehow not registered properly. We spent over a year registering voters in every community and every college campus. While there is no way to verify how many votes would have gone to Bernie or even to which party the votes belonged, it was interesting that it was mostly Bernie supporters who attended and testified at the county courthouse about the primary. I keep trying to move on but my tolerance for injustice is lacking. Jared has done a wonderful service with the DNC lawsuit and the publication of this book. Truth is important. #StillSanders

Jared Beck has done a great and noble thing by writing this clear account of what really happened in the 2016 primary. Those who participated in Bernie’s ‘political revolution,’ who were following every detail of the primary very closely, knew exactly how it was being rigged for HRC. Jared and his wife Elizabeth stepped up to the David v. Goliath effort of the #DNCfraudlawsuit to bring justice to the DNC and have gotten them to admit in court that the DNC believes it has no obligation to uphold the democratic promises—the rules and bylaws—of its charter. Anyone who cares about our so-called democracy should be appalled by what happened in 2016–what happened to Bernie Sanders, but more importantly what happened to his supporters. We were defrauded and by extension so too was our democracy. It’s too lazy to dismiss the label of rigging as ‘conspiracy.’ Do your due diligence and read and investigate. This book is a great clear and objective place to start. Buy 27 copies and give them to your neoliberal friends. It’s time to wake up.

I am not a Democrat and I knew as an independent observer that the corrupt Democrats party would steal from Bernie. I heavily disagree with Bernie policies as it would destroy the ecomony and put more people into deep poverty. Look at Cuba, Venzeula, Zimbawe and South Africa. Even at that, I believe in fairness and the Democrat party is deeply curropt (especially at elections) and is getting worse. Far worse than their KKK past.
