But worry not, this is no Tim Burton-esque, "candystore" take on the genre -it's truly spine-tingling-hairs raising on the back of the neck-read by torchlight under the duvet stuff.
Once I'd begun I couldn't put it down and finished it all on the same evening.
The stark black and white artwork (beautifully depicted) further adds to the ominous atmosphere.
I shall certainly buy other works by these authors.
All in all - 5 stars!!
A mysterious old woman with a penchant for storytelling takes two friends from the modern world into one of the past, where legends and superstitions become a horrifying reality. Tok Mah's gruesome stories will have you flinching at the slightest noise and you'll surely think twice about flipping that light switch off at bedtime!
I was so drawn in by the captivating storyline and stunning graphics, I couldn't help but read it all in one sitting!
But oh yes, it is! The pictures are artfully gruesome, the narrative chillingly compelling, and it should come with a guarantee that you will have nightmares after reading it. I did.
