Review

"Rob and Lena's story is so imperfect and such a hoot to read that most won't want it to end. The numerous twists and turns will keep you hanging off the edge of your seat, and the magical setting in France will reel you in all the way up till the magnificent finish."-- Romantic Times

"An enjoyable love story made even more romantic by its enchanting Parisian backdrop."-- Kirkus Reviews

"What If It's Love? had me holding my breath and rooting for Lena and Rob's relationship to work. It is an incredibly well written contemporary love story with a dramatic twist. ... It is also an inspired coming of age story. Lena grows from a sheltered, insecure young woman into an accomplished adult. What If It's Love? is an exceptionally entertaining contemporary romance."-- Readers' Favorite

"All the hallmarks of a good romance, and a lovely Parisian setting in the form of the quirky little La Bohème cafe and its circle of patrons."-- The Midwest Book Review

“What If It’s Love” is an engaging, emotional read. I love the characters and the book is set around the same café, Bistro La Boheme, as in one of Alix Nichols other books, a short story called “You’re the One”. I’m looking forward to the next books in this series. Lena is a the daughter of a Russian oligarch but it not what one might expect. She is not spoiled or flashy, she’s a normal girl and another character, Rob, even described her as “the girl next door”.
I love Alix Nichol’s writing style, she is witty and uses colloquial language when the young college students are talking; made me laugh a few times. She also doesn’t give you an elaborate soap opera love story; it’s realistic and has a fun twist to how Rob and Lena actually meet. It just makes for a more interesting read than a regular story about 2 people in love. Ms. Nichols also has a talent for immersing you into the story by vividly describing the neighborhood and characters. While you read you can see where the story takes place and play a little movie in your head while the characters interact. That’s always my favorite part about reading, I get to imagine everything how I want it based on the story I’m reading, it lets me take my time with the story and really enjoy it. The characters she creates are more complex as well, I feel like we get to see Lena’s personality and how she grew up and helps us realize why she does what she does and why she makes certain choices. You feel like you know her and you end up rooting for her. That also happened to me in Alix Nichols last book I read, the short story “You’re the One”, she has a real talent for the characters she creates and if you read this one too you’ll definitely see what I mean.

This is a lovely, light romance with delightful characters and a beautifully described landscape that just sweeps you up in the story. Nichols has a real flair for bringing the people and places to life, and I was completely immersed in the story from the first few pages. It really does play out like a movie in your head. The story is about Lena, who comes from a powerful and wealthy family but doesn't act like it in the least. After having her heart broken she relocates to Paris to lick her wounds and hide away from the world.

Instead of being left alone, she is soon connecting with a French waiter named Rob. What she doesn't realize is he has an ulterior motive for keeping her company, and you just know that when his dirty little secret comes out it will wreck everything. Or will it?

I liked that the main characters interactions with each other were so believable and realistic. The story eases you into Rob and Lena's romance from the beginning so you feel invested in their relationship. I enjoyed that the plot wasn't predictable and kept me guessing more than once, and the way you're let into both character's minds to see exactly what they're about.

If you are in the mood for a read that will take you on an emotional ride and that will keep you completely wrapped up in the story the whole time, then this is the story that you need to read. All of the characters in this novel are awesome. I had never heard of Alix Nichols until I was asked to review this novel, but now I will have to be picking up others because I simply loved the writing style and the story line that the author provided. As a reader and reviewer, both of these things are very important. Alix Nichols hit both of this on the head perfectly. This novel is centered around Lena, a daughter to a Russian oligarch, but even though her dad has power she does not let this get to her. She is a head strong young woman but is in no way spoiled or snotty. She is just like any other girl, and maybe that’s one of the reasons why I loved her character so much.

Alix Nichols has a writing style that you just fall in love with as I had mentioned before. There is definitely humor there to keep the reading light and fun. The romantic element in the story is also “real”. There is no crazy unbelievable romance love line to it. I liked that I got to really get into how Rob and Lena had met each other in the beginning. It was not just thrown into the middle of their relationship. All of the descriptions are enticing and makes you feel like you are right there. As the characters lives play out right before you in words, you are able to paint a picture in your mind of where they are and what the atmosphere would be like if you were there. You also get to go through thought processes with Lena as she makes decisions. You understand what choices she made and why she made them that way. You grow with her as a character and want nothing but the best for her.

I was immediately pulled in from the first page and I didn’t put it down unless I absolutely had to – silly kids and their dinner!

I’ve always wanted to go to Paris and the author made me feel like I was there. Her descriptions were amazing! This was a witty yet emotional read. The characters were well developed and not cliche – like Lena, even though she is from a rich family she isn’t a snotty brat. I also loved the fact that Lena and Rob develop a friendship first.

The story spans a couple of years and it has it’s share of ups, downs, and secrets to keep you engaged. Like I said, I couldn’t put it down.

This was a perfect romantic read.
