The main characters were practically perfect, with only one or two flaws each. Annabelle's main flaw is deeply connected with her past. The lack of multiple complex characters doesn't hurt the story; it's a romance story after all.
I certainly enjoyed the story, but the end was a little lacking. Without spoiling it, something should have happened but didn't. It changed the feel of the story for me as it doesn't fully conclude the story.
It was a nice tale and I do recommend it.
Annabelle is working as the assistant director and set designer of the upcoming Phantom of the Opera. She is working with her best friend Hayley who is designing the costumes, we discover very quickly that she is very protective of Annabelle. And of course you can’t have a play without drama, and there was plenty of it. Merry was one of the play leads and was always wanting everyone’s attention.
When one of the main actors starts to notice Annabelle, she’s not sure how to react. Jack was so good with her, he was kind and patient. As Annabelle got closer to Jack she started to open up about her past relationship with Toby. Hayley also found a love interest in David.
When Annabelle starts to get mystery letters and strange accidents start to happen she can’t help but think of Toby. Toby is determined to get her back Belle is mine, and will always be mine, Will Jack be able to protect Belle from Toby? Will Belle tell Jack everything that Toby did to her? Can they get their HEA?
I enjoyed this read but I feel like it was slow in areas. I would have liked to have gotten a little more from Toby and his craziness. The secondary characters added a great element to the story and I was left with some questions about Merry. I really disliked her. I feel like there could be more for Belle and Jack and I wouldn’t mind reading about Hayley and David. I look forward to reading more from this series. 1-click and get started today.

5 unforgettable stars
I love Laura Greenwood's novels and have been since her Alventia series, which has a new spin on some of my favorite fairy tales. What Lies Beneath The Mask takes an all too familiar and sad rea;ity of what happens when love is no longer a beautiful thing and turns into something hurtful and dangerous. Annabelle ahs lived through all sorts of hell with her now ex-boyfriend and keeps herself closed off from others to protect herself from more pain. Her best friend Hayley knows her deepest fears and secrets, and like all amazing friends, supports her in every possible way, especially when Annabelle meets Jack, the star of the Phantom of The Opera show. She knows she can't avoid him as the director's assistant, but how is she to protect herself and him when her ex starts stalking her?
4.5 sexy dreams stars
There's no shortage of drama and suspense throughout this story. Annabelle's issues make it difficult for her to learn to trust Jack as their relationship gets deeper. I loved their dynamic and Jack's perseverance in wanting the best for Annabelle, even protecting her when he could. I have to say that What Lies Beneath The Mask was a surprise and I couldn't have asked for a more realistic couple having to deal with just about anything and struggle like any other. It was emotional and awe inspiring and I can't wait to read more from Laura Greenwood.
