Not one of Albert's Best

While I enjoyed this book, I do not feel it is up to the standard of some of Mr. Low's other work, such as Zen and the Sutras, The Iron Cow of Zen, What Am I?, Hakuin's Chant in Praise of Zazen, or Hakuin on Kensho. I believe this is because most of the content centers around answering student's questions. In this format, the response is matched to the student's "level" of insight, and so is oftentimes not particularly useful to others who may have moved along a bit more. The teishos are written as monologues, and allow Mr Low to develop his thoughts in a more centered and purposeful way, and I found them to be much more illuminative. (Be sure to look at the teishos on the Montreal Zen Center website...they are very similar to those found in this book.) Mr. Low's great gift is to take questions that originate in the intellect, and deal with them in such a way that you find opening to the central question, your own knowing and the wonder of your own being.

I think that this is an excellent book destined to become a Zen classic. Albert Low has penetrating insight and his answers to his students' questions are deep, direct and clear. You can't ask more from a Zen teacher than this! I have never met Albert Low but I have begun to consider him my teacher through his writing. Thank you, Albert Low.

Interesting how one finds what one is looking for. I was searching for a morning meditation book and found " What more do you want". Perfect!! Albert Low has the ability to take the most complex and make it most simple. I for one have the ability to do the opposite so the book has been most valuable to me. Taking one or two questions and his answers each morning and meditating on the answer has been wonderful. Try it you might just like it.
