What to Do When it's Your Turn (and it's Always Your Turn) Paperback – December 1, 2014
The book:
- Is in full color throughout. It feels more like a high-end magazine than a book, and I think even people who hesitate to buy and read books will be engaged by this one.
- The format is new for me and as far as I know, no author has written a book quite this way.
- It pushes us to dig deep inside so we can do better work and impact the things we care about.
- Is urgent, personal, in-your-face and as honest as I could make it.
- Is in full color throughout. It feels more like a high-end magazine than a book, and I think even people who hesitate to buy and read books will be engaged by this one.

Review
I will share 2 copies with my two beautiful daughters, 19 and 22, just finding their way in this world. I will share 3 copies with young women I currently mentor. I will share with my dear friend (best friend of my deceased mom) who at 78 still has so much art and love to share in the world. I will share it with a friend who has lost her confidence and given in to a corporate job we both know she hates. I will share this book with the principal of my girls' former high school (2 copies) just for him to give to the kids that could use a nudge to follow their dreams. I will save a copy and carry it in my briefcase, because someday, I will unexpectedly meet someone who might benefit from it and I want to have it handy. The last copy I will keep - by my desk - dog eared and visible for times I need a nudge to keep writing that book. Thank you, Seth."

"If there is such a thing as a 'rule book,' for a time where the rules don't matter, What To Do When It's Your Turn is it. It's an easy book to read with great design, bold colors illustrations and images. It is a book that clearly communicates that it is your turn and you need to act...now."

"Seth Godin is unlike any other writer, and 'What to do when it's your turn' is unlike any other book. Instead of simply reading the book front to back, I found myself compelled to jump around - from one section to another, from spread to spread. This latest 'maga-book' is a new way to absorb Seth's wisdom and a remarkable way to share his thought provoking ideas."

"Received my 12 copies yesterday. Picked one up to peruse and 90 minutes later finished the last page. Of all of the things that MUST be done today, What To Do When Its Your Turn managed to bump them down in priority page by page. I feel like investing that time was the very BEST thing I could have done for all those who look to me for some measure of leadership. Seth was a particularly timely gift to me today :)"

"My books arrived yesterday!!! I already have 6 of them packaged up to send to some great women who are figuring out if this is their time. It's perfect for them! I was poring over it last night and just enjoying the words, the images, and the provocations. Thanks again, Seth Godin! Keep it coming!!!"

"I got my books today! Starting with the cover... amazingly soft paper. I've had the books less than 10 minutes and already know - this is a winner.
How did it change me? Gives me confidence to 'just do it'. I will be giving one to my boss, a university marketing professor, and those in dire need of the Yertle story."

"If you're second-guessing *what to do* about the resistance, then please, join me in reading this. It's a modern manual on what to do when you feel that psychic pain that comes while creating change. After reading it, you'll know what to do about the pain, and I think you might be willing to give it all you've got."

"I loved the second book, what a treat! The cover can be used as a bookmark, loved that. Loved the organization: I read a bit, write about it in my journal and read a bit the next day!

"WOW - for anyone needing a push to overcome the fear of the first step, here it is. I agree with Seth, making a ruckus is the path of Love."

About the author

Seth Godin is the author of 20 international bestsellers that have been translated into over 38 languages, and have changed the way people think about marketing and work. For a long time, Unleashing the Ideavirus was the most popular ebook ever published, and Purple Cow is the bestselling marketing book of the decade.
He worked as a year as the volunteer founding editor of The Carbon Almanac, and his recent bestsellers also include The Practice and This is Marketing.
He's a recent inductee to the Marketing Hall of Fame, and also a member of the Direct Marketing Hall of Fame and (go figure), the Guerrilla Marketing Hall of Fame.
His book, Tribes, was a nationwide bestseller, appearing on the Amazon, New York Times, BusinessWeek and Wall Street Journal bestseller lists. It's about the most powerful form of marketing--leadership--and how anyone can now become a leader, creating movements that matter.
His book Linchpin came out in 2008 and was the fastest-selling book of his career. Linchpin challenges you to stand up, do work that matters and race to the top instead of the bottom. More than that, though, the book outlines a massive change in our economy, a fundamental shift in what it means to have a job.
In addition to his writing and speaking, Seth was founder and CEO of Squidoo.com,. His blog (find it by typing "seth" into Google) is the most popular marketing blog in the world. Before his work as a writer and blogger, Godin was Vice President of Direct Marketing at Yahoo!, a job he got after selling them his pioneering 1990s online startup, Yoyodyne.
He's known as a pioneer in online education, and was the founder of the altMBA.

If you love Seth's work, which I do, this one is definitely for you.
If you keep second guessing yourself and are waiting for someone to give you permission to take the next step in your entrepreneurial journey, this one's for you (and no, he's not the one giving you permission)
If you're just plain stuck, and keep distracting yourself with mindless nothing instead of waking up and doing the work that needs to be done, this one is for you too.
Highly recommended, and feels like a friend who's got your back, nudging you kindly but honestly to go do your thing. It's just what I needed right now, and pretty sure I am not alone!
Seth presents us compelling argument, that every single advance in our society, are gained because sometime in the past, ordinary people decided to take their turns to create, to give, to try at their hands. Instead of waiting to be picked, they decided to paint the world their way.
I have actually know the book from Erich Fromm, "Fear of freedom", and know that Seth derived from that book to write this one. It is a more modern interpretation of the classic, judged by current events, it wouldn't be more true, that men are afraid of the freedoms that they have been given, and every single action we do is to hide from it, to avoid more freedom in our lives.
Read this book, it will open your mind up to a brand new way of thinking, I personally like this book better than Linchpin.

- I loved a few pages that I marked to read again and again until it sinks, and to share with others.
- There are great thoughts and concepts that can be an eye opener, depending on your challenges.
- It's a great piece in the sense that it's a well curated/edited/thoughtful book. Not everyone can put together this content in such a powerful way.
- On the other hand, there are plenty of other books that, at least for me, are more practical and are also thoughtful in the way that bring new perspectives, eg, "Anything You Want" by Derek Sivers (check his directives on his website; very powerful), Paul Arden's books "Whatever you think..." and "It's not how good..." and Tools of Titans by Tim Ferriss.
Overall, I'm happy I've read it because, even if it was a few pages that matter a lot to me, they were powerful and someone had to put it together.
I wish the book had some chapters or themes so it would be easier to go back to some of the thoughts.
The great thing of such a well crafted book is that one can just open it anywhere and read a few pages to refresh some ideas. That's not an easy thing to do in a book!!!
