This book is just perfect for the summer! It had everything in it that I loved and although I hadn’t read any other book of the ‘Camp Firefly Falls’ series that was no problem for reading this book. All the books in this series are standalones.
When I first heard about this book I couldn’t wait to read it because as a child I ‘grew’ up with the movie ‘Grease’. Every year my sister and I would watch it and sing along with the songs.
So a book that had a ‘Grease’ theme in it, I really wanted to read that. But that wasn’t the only thing that this story had that fascinated me. It didn’t only had a ‘Grease’ theme but it also had a sassy, curvy woman and a hot ice-hockey player in it and it was a second chance romance story. So what more could you want?!
Being a teenage boy isn’t always easy. Sometimes when you’re a teenager you make stupid mistakes, mistakes that will follow you for years after, because they cost you the love of your life. Sadly you can’t go back and change the mistakes that you made but what would you do if you got a second chance? A chance to convince the love of your life that you’re a changed man and now worthy of her love?
That’s what happened to Booth MacDonald. Although he’s living his big dream as one of the best goalies in the NHL, he’s still missing something in his life. And then one day he sees a picture of Jane Merrifield, his first love and his first girlfriend. Booth knows he hurt her terrible at the time but he really wants to see her and apologize. Sadly, their first meeting doesn’t go so well and Jane doesn’t even give him the chance to apologize. But the second time they meet they do talk things through but Booth wants more than that. He wants Jane back in his life and he will do everything he can to convince her that they can have a future together. He will even go so far as to sneak into a summer camp for adults that's having a Grease theme week!
When Jane was seventeen years old she felt in love with Booth. She gave him everything she had but at the end of the summer he broke her heart. Now, many years later Jane has moved on and she’s living a very fulfilling life. She never thought that she would meet Booth again. She’s so surprised by his visit that she has let the hurt out. Afterwards she realizes that and she’s sorry about it so she arranges a second meet where they talk things out. Jane thinks that this is the end of it, so you can image her surprise when she meets Booth again at the Camp Firefly Falls. She never thought that Booth was a guy that would love Grease so much that he would go to a Grease-themed week camp. But the more time they spend together the more Jane’s suspecting that Booth is there for a whole other reason.
Will Jane give Booth a second chance? Or is the past just that….. the past?
I read this book in one afternoon! I had so much fun reading this story, it made me laugh but it also made me nostalgic because it reminded me of the movie ‘Grease’ but also of ‘Dirty Dancing’ and all the summer camp movies that I saw in my childhood. I loved the fact that we saw what happened between Jane and Booth when they were young and I totally enjoyed the four gay ‘Pink Ladies’. They were great fun. The story was told in both POV’s.
The writer Kate Willougbhy wrote the perfect blend of a fun, emotional and romantic story with some hot sex scenes in it. And although I’m a lover of epilogues, I had no problems with the fact that this one didn’t have one. I found the ending perfect just the way it was.
If you’re a fan of the movie Grease or looking for a fun summer read than you definitely have to try this one!
Okay, first things first...this book is listed as part of a series, but it's not really a series book. It's more of a "world" book. You absolutely do not have to read any of the other books in this series to enjoy this book. The only thing that ties them together is this camp...which is just the setting. The story ties more to Kate Willoughby's Barracuda series, but you can easily read this book as a stand-alone.
And I will tell you right now...this book is the PERFECT summer read! OMG, the story is so much fun. (Note: I totally want to go to a camp for adults now!)
Booth and Jane were high school sweethearts, but they were young and immature, so when Booth's friends started making fun of him for liking Jane, he caved to peer pressure and broke Jane's heart. That was 11 years ago and neither Jane nor Booth have ever forgotten the other. For Booth, she's his one regret. For Jane, he's the thing that pushed her to find a better version of herself. She wasn't going to let one boy's bad opinion of her pull her down. She just never knew that bad opinion was the false one. Booth really loved her.
So, when they meet again, Booth has to work extra to get Jane to even agree to having coffee with him, despite the fact he's a starting NHL goalie now. I loved that about her. In fact, I loved pretty much everything about her. I loved her blog and how she uses it to empower women. I love the idea of her lingerie line and I loved her fun passion for Grease, the movie.
And then there's Booth. I love that he truly finds her sexy. He likes a woman with curves and isn't going to apologize for that ever again. To him, Jane is his ideal woman, and he's willing to prove it with his actions.
This book was everything. It was fun and sassy, romantic and entertaining. I thoroughly enjoyed it and think you will, too. I highly recommend it!
