1. I hate cheating and dont trust cheaters
2. I didn't understand Gavin's reasons for cheating, it was beyond stupid. The best revenge would have been for him to turn Lisa flat down and showing her that he is happy and in love with his wife. Maybe even thank her for dropping him as it lead to emma.
I also didn't like Emma's dependency on Gavin for her mental wellbeing. That alone played a huge role in her desire to make their marriage work.
I love the detail the author goes into the start of the romance of the couple in the story, weaving back and for between the years.
I have finished the book and I really enjoyed it. The erotic parts are from a women's perspective and help set the emotional context of first loves's blush, mature marriage and trying to cope with infidelity.
Emma is a ADS type with trust issues from a not their mother that meets the dashing Gavin, handsome a well off. The story weaves from the present to the past to help solidify the reasons why Gavin's infidelity was so devastating to Emma. We go from there first meeting, to their marriage, Gavin's fling and the aftermath.
The sex in the book is first rate but not superfluous. It is the tie that binds the emotional context of the book together, Emma needing control to orgasm, finally relenting and letting Gavin be in charge of her orgasm, then her stuttering attempts after the infidelity to resume a sex life with Gavin to the final forgiveness of Gavin and hot makeup sex at his cousin's wedding.
I could of done without the ending 3 years in the future where Emma had a child and one on the way. The book could of ended on just alluding to it after the wedding but I like happy endings and it resolved the book well.
I really enjoyed that book as it brought to life an issue that many couples have dealt with. The writing was great and it really took the reader into the inner workings and feelings of each character.
As for the erotic scenes, they were well thought out and very hot. I especially liked the phone sex scene - it was perfect.
Overall a good read for both the plot, writing, and erotica.
I will definitely be reading more by this author.
Gavin comes from a large family, and even though his father died while he was young, he has always worked hard to be the man that he thought his dad would want him to be, as well as to support his mother. His mother died a year prior to this cheating confession, so, as the book unfolds, you see that Gavin has been drifting a little, emotionally, without even realizing it. Emma, on the other hand, had a dad that walked out on her, her sister and her mother, when she was young. Her mother then seemed to spiral into a depression, and this lack of control in her life has impacted Emma in many ways in her present, as she struggles in many areas of her life to maintain control. Gavin's confession takes away that control.
Gavin and Emma must figure out if their marriage is as perfect as they thought it was, and if they can push past this betrayal. The book moves back and forth from the present back to the past when Gavin and Emma first began to date. You get to see how they have grown together, as well as, through Gavin's perspective, what might have led to his infidelity. I really enjoyed this book and seeing a married couple go through something that seems like it really could happen - and the reasoning behind it seems like it could really happen. So, you cry, along with Emma and Gavin, you feel a little bit scared and nauseous at times, emotionally, and you root for them as they fight for what they want - each other.
