Product Description

What's on Your Plate? is a witty and provocative documentary about kids and food politics. Over the course of one year, the film follows two eleven-year-old multiracial city kids as they explore their place in the food chain. Sadie and Safiyah talk to food activists, farmers, and storekeepers, as they address questions regarding the origin of the food they eat, how it's cultivated, and how many miles it travels from farm to fork.

Excellent documentary! Food policy as accessed and recorded by adolescent girls from NYC. Great for adolescents and all adults. Informative and well-researched. Produced with exceptional skill. Of the highest quality! Fun to watch, enjoyed it, and learned more about food politics on many levels than I had before viewing it. I have shared this DVD widely within my network, and I will continue to do so.

I thought this documentary was awesome and enjoyed seeing kids think critically about the food system and explore their curiosity. Shows that "kids can"- they can ask hard questions, investigate, and make changes.

I never got to see it because the DVDs they sent me don't work. They sent me 2 and I returned 2. Very disappointed as I wanted to share with the kids at work! Don't bother sending me a replacement unless it is going to work!

Lovely for children- watched it with my 9-year-old twins - I wish there was something a little more detailed in between this level and the scary food/nutrition movies out there. I loved the girls' curiosity and their determination to get answers.

Wow! I really loved this film. It has a fresh, accessible perspective and yet is really smart. Girls, where is the sequel? Highlights the logjam between farmers, and what they produce, and large institutions that hold sway over what the public eats. Govt, fast food, schools, stores, etc. And what can a person do about it? Congrats!

This is a great film for children and anyone interested in the link between food access and health, esp as it relates to schools.

Great to show students. Some parts get a little dry (like the farmers' market part and the CSA part) but it is clear, entertaining and informative.
