Product Description
Henry Tyroon likes what wealth can bring, but that isn’t why he spends so much time pursuing it. “You do it for fun,” he explains. “Money’s just the way you keep score.” James Garner scores big as Henry, a flimflammer who lands in New York City after his Texas oil well comes up a duster. He needs a million or so in pocket money to pay his debts. Soon, he also hopes to land a blue-eyed blue chip: a stock analyst (Lee Remick) pressured by her firm to unload a worthless stock. Can Henry come up with a plan to turn what’s worthless into the hottest thing on Wall Street? The market for wit and charm is a sure thing in this mix of romantic comedy and business-world satire. Thirty years later, Garner would play a wheeler-dealer of another era to award-winning effect as the CEO in Barbarians at the Gate.

Overall, this is an excellent transfer from an above-average print, apparently with some basic quality automated restoration applied with no discernable digital artifacts. The original print film grain comes through as it should, without the unnatural (to film sources) suppressed grain with obvious digital sharpening which is sometimes seen on poorer-quality transfers. Obviously this film has not had the type of frame-by-frame inspection/ hand-corrected high-end restoration that something like a Lawrence of Arabia gets, but to my eyes on my Sony HD SXRD projector/ 92" home theatre screen this looks very much like a typical print that I would have seen in my local movie theatre back in the day (and during which time I was also a projectionist for 2-1/2 years, so I am very sensitive to good theatrical presentation).
As for the movie itself, a classic comedy of the period, extremely well done with the storyline, casting, directing, photography, and editing.
No extras except for a trailer, which also seemed to be from a typical-quality (for a trailer, a bit softer than the main feature) print.
Still, given the movie itself plus the generally high quality Blu-ray release production value, I give it 5 stars!
The movie has much the same plot as Cash Mc Call. but this was a later movie and with different cast members. The movie flows quite well and other then a point where they added things for comic relief, I liked the movie. The Costars are some of the most recognizable comedians of this period. They all add comedy and some misdirected tension to the plot.
This is a fun family movie suited for the whole family. It is quite relaxing and you do not have to wounder if the kids can see it, they can. I never felt like fast forwarding through any of the movie as it never dragged or became boring. I hope you will enjoy this too.
Althought this movie was made back in 1960, it has the fast pace and well thought out script to rival recent Wall Street movies. And when it comes to money making trickery - the only difference between this an recent Wall Street movies is the Taxman, and not the general population suffer from his tricks.
The quality of the film is pretty good, but the flesh colours are a bit too red (making the actors less realistic), which is a shame, especially considering this is a remastered version.
