Editorial Reviews

From the Inside Flap

Illus. in full color. "With a jovial bus driver as host, readers have quite a ride ahead of them as the bus bounces through what appears to be a French town. In her first book the artist humorously injects the familiar song with cheerful new life."--"Horn Book.

I bought this when my daughter was 13 months, and after 7 months she still loves this book. There are different people in the bus - adults, kids, elderly, pets, etc., and many things happening on and off the bus.

When my daughter refuses to drink her milk, I'll turn to the page where the baby is happily drinking from the bottle, then she will take her cup and start drinking.

Try Raffi's CD as well. He sang the song to a cheerful tones with kids in the background - my daughter loves it.

Pretty good for a 20 month old! It's fun to sing, nicely drawn and there are many fun hand motions in it. Beautiful book!

My daughter calls this book "Vroom vroom!" It is by far her favorite. She liked the song before she ever saw the book and the illustrations in this version fascinate her -- so many things to point to and discuss! Just today, she propped up this book so her dolls could read it, too.

I was not bothered by the baby getting a bottle at all. I breastfed my daughter, but she often got a bottle of pumped milk, especially when we were out and about.

This is a cute little book. The pictures are darling - such detail! My 17 mth. old son loves this song, and the book provides charming visuals to go along with the words. Previous reviewers have commented on the picture of the baby being bottle fed. Little children are completely unaware of the breast vs. bottle debate and just enjoy the song and pictures. Don't worry so much about small things!

My son's all time favorite book. I even Googled this author to find other books he has written because, the illustrations were so cute and instead found video of him playing this song to a large audience on his guitar and the children in the audience all singing along. It was so warm and cute. My son also enjoys watching that video and following along with the motions. This style of writing is also nice because, it encourages some interaction with the child while reading the book. I encourage him to do the Shoosh motion and to beep the horn and spin his hands when singing that the wheels go round and round. Great way to incorporate cooperative play.

We got this book for our son; originally, from the local library... we had to get it out several times, as it quickly became his favorite. Eventually, we bought it to add to our collection.

The book brings the simple interactive song, The Wheels on the Bus" to life as each verse is wonderfully illustrated with artwork that captures a child's attention and provides LOTS of visual stimulation and teaching points. Vibrant colors, interesting people and actions make the beautifully simple song something you can sit down with your child and read over and over, pointing out new things...

We read the book, sing with the book, make the hand movements/gestures, go into detail about the vignettes presented in the back-story, use our imagination, object, action and color recognition, it's a great way to connect educationally and in a simple, entertaining way.

This book is up there with "Green Eggs and Ham" "You Are Special" "Guess How Much I Love You" and "Go Dog Go" as a key component of any young child's library.

Your decision should not be "if" I get this book for a child, but whether you get the board book, paper book, or both!

The illustrations are good and if you're not familiar with the tune, it has the music printed on the back inside cover.

I love singing stories to my elementary students in music class. Over time, the students learn the tunes as well and sing with me. They enjoy visuals which is why the thought of musical "story time" is usually a success for me.
