About the Author
Paul R. Williams received his M.D. from Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, Missouri. He did his internship and pediatric residency at William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, Michigan. He did his fellowship in neonatal-perinatal medicine at Harbor General Hospital, UCLA, Torrance, California. Dr. Williams is board certified in pediatrics and neonatology. After his fellowship, he returned to William Beaumont Hospital as an associate neonatologist and later became the Director of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Director of Neonatal Research. For fifteen years, Dr. Williams was on the faculty of the University of South Florida as an Associate Professor of Pediatrics. He has published many scientific articles during his academic career. Dr. Williams has been involved in full-time medical missions since 1984. He was the founding director of HealthCare Ministries of the Assemblies of God World Missions from 1984 to 1994. He was the first medical director of Operation Blessing in Virginia Beach, Virginia from 1994 to 1997. In 1997 he founded International HealthCare Network , which facilitates and networks organizations in humanitarian outreaches and ministry. Since 2005 he has been a visiting faculty member of In His Image Family Medicine Residency in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Dr. Paul Williams has felt a calling to use medicine and compassionate ministries as a way to express the love of Jesus to hurting people around the world. His experiences during his more than twenty-five years in medical missions in 105 nations gives him a very unique perspective on world events and human suffering, including in the United States. Whether man-made or natural, the word disaster seems more and more a part of our lives. Dr. Williams was alerted to the fact that 85 to 90 percent of people are NOT PREPARED for even common disasters. Dr. Williams felt a stirring to write When All Plans Fail to challenge individual believers and churches to become prepared for disasters, and then during times of crisis, be the salt and light the Bible speaks about. Dr. Williams has organized and led medical teams in a number of major world disasters since the early 1990s. From cyclones devastating Bangladesh, to the refugee camps created by the Rwandan Civil War, to hurricane-ravaged Nicaragua and Honduras, to tsunami devastation in Banda Aceh, Indonesia, and earthquakes around the world, he has been there. He has brought the healing gifts of a physician, his Spirit-led leadership, and a Christ-like love for those who are suffering into the middle of some of the greatest disasters this world has known. His experiences in responding to disasters more than qualify him to bring us his insights into our roles and responsibilities to be prepared through When All Plans Fail and the When All Plans Fail Workbook.
