When Doves Fly Paperback – October 10, 2015
|New from||Used from|
Writer's Digest Self-Published Book Awards, 2016 Honorable Mention:
Lauren Gregory's book, When Doves Fly, is a fascinating twist on the Gold Rush. The opening scene will grab the reader with its vivid description and a powerful event that presents a problem from the beginning. The author's research shows through the description and actions of the characters, but it isn't overwhelming or textbookish, and the dialogue is natural and true. With a woman fleeing the East and making her way through a predominately male society out West, this is a story that book clubs should eagerly embrace.
When Doves Fly has all the color, action, and erudite research of a first class western, but with a story conscientious enough to transcend any genre cliche. If you like the nineteenth century American west,strong women, or an intriguing plot that builds throughout, you would find this an excellent read. - Jackson Ahern, author
About the Author
Lauren Gregory, who was raised on a horse farm, discovered a love for writing in sixth grade when she learned could move people with words. She misplaced that love for a couple decades and traveled the world in the U.S. Navy, floundered through two college degrees, and embarked on raising a rowdy son who’s too much like her. She found that love again on a cold November morning in 2013, and they’ve been locked in a tortured embrace ever since. These days, she writes novels, maintains a history blog, and herds poodles in her native Colorado.

But by far, the last words Lily says to Luke made me so very, very proud of her. And the fact that I was able to continue reading though it's not even close to my preferred genre (historic, WESTERN? Um, no thank you) speaks volumes. If I don't like something, I don't finish it. Lauren Gregory did a fantastic job, and I look forward to reading more from her in the future.
