Sub-plots and some good writing gives me a involvement in other clansmen lives. I can say I'd truly recommend this book. Price was good, I'd like to read #2, but I think the pricing is way out of my league. For those who can afford the next 3, I'm jealous. LoL. 👍
In her first attempt at this new time period, Julie Johnstone hits a home run. From the moment Iain McLeod meets Marion de Lacy he is captivated. Everything she does both fascinates and frustrates him but ignites a feeling of deep betrayal to his late first wife. While forced to marry due to circumstances out of their control, Iain and Marion accept and respect each other and thus fill a void in their hearts left by the pain of loss and rejection. Iain has to justify the feelings Marion stirs in him as well as figure out a way to keep her safe from her abusive father and the man he wanted Marion to marry. Marion spent her entire life seeking her father's love to no avail and now finds herself married to a man who vows to never love again. She desperately wants a family and a place to belong. As they battle their past and present demons, Iain and Marion are drawn to each other and discover they simply can't live with out one another.
This was a wonderful read and I can't wait for the next one!!
King Edward, holding the Scottish King David, finds out about the plot and sends another Scottish laird to marry Marion as part to dis rail the plot and as a way to start negotiations of David's release.
Ian Mcloud has decided that he buried his heart with his first wife but he will do his duty to his King. He promises protection and loyalty to Marion but he won't love her!
Ian arrives to find the women he pledged to protect "dead" and on the return to tell King Edward finds Marion in trouble. They marry and high tale it back to Scotland. However, the evil knight still wants Marion and the lands that come with her and not everyone is happy Ian married! There is danger all around them. Will Ian learn to love and trust this Half English lass? Will Marion find the love and belonging she craves?
Overall a good story I enjoyed, and I would read others by this author, but I tire of the story line of the heroine doing stupid things. I loved Iain, but at one point I rolled my eyes as he said, again, that he would never let anything bad happen to her-yet they kept happening!
