Not much has changed for Ana Mia. Not only does she have Dr. Phil for a girlfriend, but she is continually abused by the human survivors. They force her to use her special gift to lure the enemy into various traps, put her into life and death situations, and then accuse her of being a traitor because she used her gift. Damned if she does, damned if she doesn't. As if that isn't bad enough, Ana Mia is like a walking kiss of death, with her loved ones dying left and right.
Her alien contact, Grayson, appears to have his own agenda in this war, passing messages to Ana Mia about the alien Queen. Since she can't even trust her human companions, Ana Mia has given up on the idea of peace for either species. She has accepted her way of life will always be fighting, which is exactly what she does...right to the very end.
Anyone who is a fan of the TV series Falling Skies will appreciate the detail Kody Boye puts into the continued suffering of his characters. I'd love to see this trilogy optioned into a movie.
As with the other two books, the quality of the narration in the audiobook is excellent and sweeps us to the epic showdown and conclusion in a satisfying but no overstated crescendo.
My only disappointment with this series was that the excellent introduction to the characters and their connection and relationships dropped a little for me in Books 2 & 3. Despite best efforts, I could not ship Ana Mia and Asha. For me the connections did not burn and spark like I had anticipated. Further character and relationship development would perhaps have added value. Perhaps not killing off so many main characters was an option. While this is no fairytale, it is valuable for the reader to have multiple close connections with character if the journey of one is to end.
Enjoy concluding this fascinating series - it will be worth the ride.
Ana Mia and every human’s lives changed forever the day the Greys came bringing death and destruction in their wake. As Ana Mia, Mary-Ann and Asha run for their lives the aliens seem determined to get Ana Mia back at all cost. After she was bitten by an alien coyote she began to physically change while also having a mental connection with them.
The differences between the Greys and the humans is vast, their technology not withstanding. The aliens seem to think that the loss of human lives was just a fact of war, but when their own people were killed they didn’t feel the same way. The only hope that humanity has is if some of the aliens could begin to understand how humanity feels about the invasion.
This was an incredible saga that takes humanity to the brink of salvation. People are forced to decide who to support humanity or the aliens. This was a wild ride from the start to the very end.
