"Another amazing read from AL Jackson. Emotional, heart wrenching, beautiful story!" ~Two Book Pushers

"This is a book about strength in the midst of perilous fear, true love in the careful quest to keep those you love safe and a flickering hope battling with hopelessness. I loved it and I know you will too." ~Vilma's Book Blog

"Books like this remind me of why I absolutely ADORE reading. Books like this that grab me, hold me captive, envelop me in the story and leave a mark on my heart.
Once again, the phenomenally talented AL Jackson brings us a gorgeously written, emotionally charged love story that that was heart wrenching, beautiful and uplifting." ~Aestas Book Blog

“William. My secret, my heart. The beautiful man I’d lain with for hours under the stars, our lives poured out in a torrent of stories and words. The way he held me while I shared the ones that hurt me the most. How he touched me, the way he made me feel incredibly safe. How that hold had escalated from safety to ecstasy as the soft pads of his fingers would dance across my lips when he locked himself to me, the perfect weight of his body, the expression on his face when he came. The heartbreak in his eyes when I told him goodbye.”

There are some love stories that will take you on such intensely emotional journeys, shake you to the very core of your being, make you scream, cry, curse, throw things against walls, but also fill you with more hope than you ever thought possible – THIS is one of those books. William and Maggie are going to become two names you might forget one day but you will never forget their story. You will never forget how much it hurt to ‘live’ their life with them, how much emotion you invested in their happiness and how cruel you learned life could be to those who least deserve it.

William has been raised in a loving and supportive household, his family ties being the pillar or everything he is, everything he knows and everything he holds dear. One night while sitting around a bonfire with some friends, he sees Maggie and he is inexplicably drawn to her. Everything about her mesmerizes him – her every shy movement, her every reluctant word, her every timid glance directed his way – their connection is irreversibly forged that night. But Maggie is a troubled young woman. Her fragility comes from never having known what being loved felt like.

I love A.L. Jackson's writing. She has such a gift with words, I was genuinely excited to learn she had a new book out. When We Collide is a gripping, heartbreaking, frustrating read. When I first started reading it, I was actually weary that Jackson had just combined the themes from her first 2 books (Pulled and Take this Regret) and spun them into a 3rd book. Parts of it seemed so familiar. This is a very hard review to write so I think it may be easier if I break this down into what I liked vs. what I disliked in this book.

The Good:
- Jackson's writing is wonderful, most of her characters (including secondary ones) seem real. And she writes some of the best angst out there!
- In parts of the book I was on the edge of my seat, heart pounding, dreading turning the page b/c I was so worried for the characters.
- The love scenes are well done, very emotional and relevant to the story.

The Not-So-Good:
- I didn't like the flashbacks. We did need the backstory, but I almost feel it would have been better to just start the book 6 years earlier, tell that whole story up to the break up and then have the next part start 6 years later when William has to return to MS. It seems pretty disjointed the way it is and when I would get into one part of the story, it jerked to the past over and over again.
- There is actually very little 'present day' interaction b/t the H/h. In a romance, I want to see the couple together. Especially after a 6 year separation, I want to see how they deal with eachother and how their past decisions affect their current interactions. The author accomplished this beautifully in Take this Regret, so I was expecting more of the same and was sadly disappointed.

'When We Collide' is an emotional novel that deals with love, loss, family, and hope. It's wonderfully written with a great pace. The author's attention to detail and descriptions of the setting and characters made this book really rich and beautiful. It was easy to imagine myself alongside the characters in the novel and the setting was so completely described that I could almost feel the sun on my skin and the smell of the leaves. The characters are well rounded and very realistic. They aren't stereotypical and have flaws, which made them easy to identify with and understand. The relationship and struggles between William and Maggie were heart-wrenching and made me want to help fix all their problems. The story itself is layered and deals with serious issues like family, betrayal, love, loss, and hope. Although there is definite suffering and pain throughout the story, it only made it that much more realistic and heartwarming to read. It shows us that life doesn't always go the way we want or the way we plan, but sometimes things work out the way they were meant to anyways. Overall, this is a wonderful contemporary romance that has a deeper story line than most - it's one that will resonate with the reader long after they have finished reading it.

Disclosure: I received a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Because it shouldn't hurt to be touched.

Well, that just sets the stage for what lies ahead. This is the third book I have read from this author and every time she never fails to amaze me. Her books are as beautiful as they are tragic. All about love & loss, trust, forgiveness & second chances. Her writing style has this way of completely drawing you in and forcing you to REALLY FEEL what her characters feel, and this one was no different.

'I'd never known what home meant. To me, it'd been a prison, a place I longed to escape. A place where horrors were harbored, concealed behind closed windows and lies. -Maggie

I'm not gonna lie, this book was really hard to read at times. The abuse that takes place and the things Maggie is forced to endure is truly gutwrenching. A life filled with nothing but this for as long as she can remember leaves behind a scared, broken girl, with absolutely no self-worth. Until she meets William at the tender age of 18

'underneath all the scars that lined my body and lined my soul, William saw me. And he loved me as much as I loved him.' -Maggie

For the first time in her life, she feels that maybe she might be worth it. He is her shining light, her hope in all the darkness. But when she finally has the chance to break free with William, that darkness rips it all away & shatters both their hearts. William disappears, leaving it all behind, fleeing his broken heart for 6yrs. But tragic circumstances force him to go back to the one place he swore he would never return and he must face the cause of his broken heart. One look at Maggie and his life is forever altered. He makes the decision to not walk away this time, he will do whatever it takes to fight for her and free her from her Hell.
