self-less. The chemistry between them is undeniable and electric. From the moment they meet they are inexplicably drawn to one another; bound by something stronger than they understand. They share an intense connection on a soul-deep level that can’t be ignored no matter how hard they try to resist. The heart wants what it wants. I fell in love with these characters and storyline. Watching them fall in love was absolutely breathtaking. How they fight for one another is powerfully moving. I was not prepared for how emotionally and deeply this story would impact me. The suspenseful scenes had me on the edge of my seat and were intense. I could feel every emotion they experienced. Some scenes just stole my breath while others shattered my heart. The scenes that made my heart soar made up for all the pain. The unconditional love and support of family was inspiring. So much wisdom interlaced throughout this incredible story. I absolutely loved every second of this book and wished it didn’t have to end! I highly recommend reading this book!!
Again this book is really tough on your heart and is very emotional along with being tough for some people to read. I don’t know how Mrs. Jackson does it but if I could this would be more than just five stars.
So yes it’s a heart breaking book to read, but way worth it, I say.
“Was it wrong that all I wanted to do was kiss her?
I smiled, and Maggie blushed.
Oh God. So cute.
I knew then, I’d give this girl anything she asked me for. I’d probably beg her to take it.”
This story highlights the gut-wrenching horrors of abuse so it’s not for the faint of heart! But it’s also a story about the beauty of second chances, of finding the strength to stand up for yourself and for the people you love. There’s a dedication at the beginning that I feel sums up this book perfectly, “Because it shouldn’t hurt to be touched.” This is such a profound statement and as soon as I read it I knew I was in for one hell of an emotional ride!
When William first meets Maggie he’s instantly drawn to her. Maggie has known no kindness in her life; she lives in a very abusive home and now has a nasty, abusive boyfriend. She’s so damaged that she actually feels unworthy of love. But we see what William sees; that she’s sweetly innocent, kind-hearted, self-sacrificing, and deserves so much more out of life. He wants nothing more than to give her the “more” that she needs, he wants to save her from her life, help her heal and show her what she’s really worth. Little by little she begins trusting him and seeing herself through his eyes, these chapters were so beautiful and touching!
But as we know, this is a story of second chances so unfortunately their happiness wouldn’t last. On the very night they were supposed to run away together something goes horribly, horribly wrong and they are torn apart. William leaves to start a new life and to get away from his tragic memories of Maggie but returns six years later when his family calls him back. He’s not sure what he’ll find when he finally comes face to face with Maggie and when it happens, it’s more shocking then anything he could have prepared himself for! When We Collide is told from William and Maggie’s alternating POV’s as well as a seamless blend of present day and flashbacks. This works brilliantly for this novel and even adds a bit of a mystery as you try and work out what happened the night they were to run away. There’s also a bit of a mystery to figure out in the present day timeline but to avoid any spoilers, I’ll just leave it at that :)
If you’ve never read this book and you love these kinds of gut-wrenching, tortured love stories then I suggest you stop what you’re doing and go grab this book, especially now that it’s on sale! I obviously love this book and am highly, highly recommending it along with all of her other books. A.L. Jackson has never let me down with one of her books; she’s one of those authors that I don’t even need to question, “should I buy this one?” When I see a new book of hers it’s an automatic pick up……….. then I grab my tissue box cause I know I’m gonna need it!

I agree with other reviews it should have a warning on the back that says 'only read if you are prepared to lose your heart and soul!
I was drawn to this book as soon as I saw its beautiful cover and it illustrates what this plot revolves around - but then 'When We Collide' is so much more - it tells the story of an enduring love; the importance of family; being true to one's own feelings and reveals the dark effects of abuse in its different forms.
The story is told from the perspectives of the two main protagonists, William and Maggie. A.L Jackson writes using a first person narrative, allowing the reader to grow more attached to the characters, but she not only chooses to switch perspectives but tells the story in the present tense and from six years earlier. This is a sad heartbreaking story so be prepared...........
A. L. Jackson has written this story beautifully, what can I say you need to read it. I loved William, so lovely and I felt for him in every way and Maggie, poor thing, I won't go into the book description as this will spoil it however this book is not a light read and for some it may be a tough journey but it is worth it.
A. L. Jackson has created a world of beauty with her words and although the end is a shocking climax it is any reader will be pleased they got there. Can we have another book PLEASE!
Told in first person narrative from both male and female p.o.v, when we collide is the story of Will and Maggie who due to circumstances you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy are ripped apart and forced to live their respective lives in pain and regret for the next six years. A family bereavement brings Will home and from the instant he sees Maggie again his self-imposed lonely life is flipped on it's head and a gut-wrentching struggle for the happiness they both crave and deserve brings their families into a dangerous and ultimately deadly situation.
My advice to you is
Firstly, buy this book, you will not regret it, then do not read it until you have a full box of tissues and space in your day to read this undistubed in one sitting.
I'm off now to search out more books by this author, I hope I have been helpful.
I'm a big fan of A.L.Jacksons but have not yet read all of her books - I'm slowly working my way through and this one did not disappoint!
So where was my copy telling the story of Will & Maggie?
I cannot now return this, and dont want to re-order incase I get the same book a 3rd time - any suggestions anyone ?
