Dawn Scott Damon's book is a gift that will speak of peace and wisdom to many hearts that have been hurt and that still wallow in the confusion of guilt and shame. The writing is fluid, with well-chosen words that pithily convey the author's message. I loved the parts where the author shares her own story and it comes across beautifully, in a clear and compassionate voice. Readers will appreciate the reassuring tone of the writing, the logical offering of ideas, and the truth buried in these pages. This is a book for any woman -- and any man -- who has been made to feel small, dirty, and less human through the painful acts of sexual abuse. When the Woman Abused Was You: A Guide to Healing from Sexual Abuse offers hope and shows readers how to reach out for it. This is another gift to share with those who have been hurt both emotionally and sexually. In these pages lies their path to freedom.

"When The Woman Abused Was You" allowed me to appreciate that healing is a journey, not a destination. To me it appeared as though peace was the destination. It made me appreciate that to love someone who has been abused means understanding that abuse causes layers of scars that you must be patient to helping the person or friend you're with explore and understand themselves.
Abuse is never a one-size-fits-all on how it should be handled or understood. This book gives power to those who have been abused and gives them the power to finally if at all feel that they can accept the challenge of "packing their bags of anger, frustration, sadness, depression, etc " and begin the JOURNEY to healing. This book was so well written, I am considering buying it for those in my life who really need it. It is a game-changer in the way one can look at abuse and it gives great advice from someone (Dawn Damon) who makes you feel like you've known them your whole life! A must have!
